    Hey!
I bought a 3.20Ghz/1M/800 SL7E5 from a mate when he messed up his motherboard with a firmware upgrade and went with a 4400 DUAL CORE X2 ATHLON 64 939. I'm in the process of bidding on a new sweet little cheap board, a PCChips P25G Via Socket 478 MicroATX Motherboard which is designed with the Prescott in mind. My problem is that i'm not 100% sure that i actually have a Prescott, and can't seem to find a straight yes or no from searching google so hopefully i can be told straighup wather it is or not so i can bid for this board. Also, some options on the board as well as this is my first build and want to start at least in the middle range of power and performance.
    Rgds.

It's a Prescott. The give away is the cache. Northwood has 512k and Prescott has 1M.
This is a handy link for Intel CPUs

Is it socket 775 or socket 478? if its socket 478, then any boards which handle prescott will also handle northwood.

then u should be fine if the board says it handles prescott. At worst it may need a bios update.

Sweet... There is however one other thing on my mind, probably not an issue but i'm buying from the states and was at the back of my mind thinking of wattage and voltage, is this an issue with a main board from the states or would she be ready to go from the box?
I have a 300w psu for a p4 unit but i assume that the board would be of universal voltage?

Should be ready to work from the box. Mainboards don't care where they come from. They are powered from PSU which supplies the voltage. So it don't matter as long as your PSU works here.

The comments above are correct. Northwoods have 512 cache. You have prescott. I'm sure 300W is just enough for the prescott, although I would prefer a bit more. You may find the PSU heating a lot and perhaps crashes, but it kinda depends what other stuff your gonna put into the PC.
