cosmetic surgery in ireland

I'm looking to have plastic surgery done but wondering of the best way of finding a suitable surgeon is, I'm not sure what procedures I'm interested in yet, multiple anyhow I know but would be looking to talk to someone about it first.

From looking around the internet the 'big two' in Ireland stand out a mile, they are advanced cosmetic surgery and harley medical group, others include
http://www.renewyou-ireland.com/ (dublin costmetic surgery center) and I have also seen one or two surgeons from the blackrock clinic listed in the independent directory (but neither are on the irish medical register as far as I can see), since I'm looking for advice on recommmended procedures for me I figure one of the big two would be the way to go as I'm guessing they would have dealt with more surgeries / people since well they are the big two.

Has anyone had expericence with different surgeons in ireland? and what do ppl think of the places mentioned above. Good, bad? Thanks for your advice.

I only have experience of Advanced Cosmetic Surgery and I have to say I found them absolutely marvellous both times.

I consulted the same surgeon on both occasions simply because I was so impressed with him the first time around.

how bad must your nose be for you to consider getting it done? not suggesting that your friends nose is messed up but wondering to what extreme it would have to be for you to get it fixed. I have a biggish nose but would never consider surgery on it.

He broke it twice when he was young, so its more for medical reasons than for cosmetic.. Not sure whether they can even do anything as the septum is pretty distorted. He emailed them once asking them about it & since then they keep emailing him asking him to come in for a free consultation!

going by the look of steve bruce (ex man united defender) he should realy get it sorted. but in general, if you were unhappy with a part of you that looked that way from birth, how bad would it have to be before you consider surgery?

Brown_Eyed_Girl and everyone esle thanks for your replies and keep them coming,

Brown_Eyed_Girl what was the name of your surgeon I found these names on the advanced cosmetic surgery site for NI advancedni.co.uk I couldn't see any names of surgeons on their republic site though, perhaps their the same and they just drive between dublin and belfast as needed.

Glad you say you have had marvellous experience with ACS, I've seen some people saying to avoid them just because they advertise, OK they are a business and sometimes ads may be pushed in your face but it is big business in ireland these days and it does not mean they do not do a good job, as you have proved. By the way do you think your experience was marvellous because of the surgeon mainly or do you think acs in general was the reason, I mean surgeon+environment+aftercare.

Sorry for all the questions to you but your the only one who replied so far with actual experience themselves, was your initial consulation with the surgeon himself/herself or did you have to go to a nurse first. Just asking because I know with harley medical group your free consulation is with a nurse consuller and not a surgeon. So the person recommending what procedures is not actually a surgeon.

To r-keane a nose would not have to be particularly bad to considering having it done, it itself could be 'ok' but could just bring things out of balance in your profile view. Thanks for your thoughts again.

It has more to do with breathing problems than cosmetic, but that said, I'm sure he'd be happier with a nose without a bump!

My surgeon was Mr Sammy Malhas, and my initial consultation was with him and all follow up appointments was with him too.

I requested him for my 2nd consultation and again saw him at my appointment.

As for my experience with ACS, I found Mr Malhas absolutely lovely and at all times made you feel very relaxed and was very good at answering my questions, I actually think that the man takes great pride in his work (my little scar is abolutely lovely), and has been with ACS for a good few years.

I found the girls at the office very nice and helpful, and the nurses at the clinic wonderful, both procedures involved an overnight stay and it felt like a home away from home rather than a hospital.

Their follow up care is excellent and you can ring the clinic at any time if you are worried about anything.

I know I sound like an ad for them but I have to say my experience was excellent .................... maybe I have just been lucky

A girl I worked with got a something done in the Harley Medical Centre.

She said they were lovely there but expensive.

thanks brown eyed girl, you have really helped me here, why was mr malhas selected as the person to give you your consultation intially, perhaps he was best one suited to your needs.

Any indication of prices (generally comparatively to others) where they expensive compared to others you might have looked into and why in the end did you decide to go with ACS?

Hi Orla, was your friends results good, I think in a lot of cases surgeons can be lovely and all but everyone can be lovely, experience and qualifications is what counts though in the end. I think all procedures will be expensive, someone counting the pennies should not be considering PS I don't think.

I think it's actually great having to figure out and compare clinics and surgeons against each other, a few years ago in Ireland, options where very limited, and now because of changed morals and of course the celtic tiger, this is very big business in ireland with a reasonably good amount of choice out there.

If it was cheaper,A LOT CHEAPER, then i might consider getting something done other than that not a chance would i spend thousands or euro, rip off central.

Give some consideration to getting your operation(s) done in thailand.

prices are far cheaper, and the usa trained surgeons would be of a far better standard than you would get at harley or acs

I personally wouldnt dream of having it done outside of Ireland, isnt it really handy to be able to pick up the phone and ask about anything that you might be worried about ????? Having said that I never priced it outside of Ireland, it might be very advantagous.

As for picking ACS, well they were the first I rung and I was so impressed at my consultation, that I never did ring anyone else. I personally dont think that its about money, surely your health is more important ?

As for Mr Malhas, well they only reason that I can think of was that ........... he was drop dead gorgeous :D

Ah no I did check out his qualifications through my gp

oh yes I totally agree that's it about health and reasurrance that your in good hands and not just what figure it costs you in the end.

I was looking at england plastic surgeons too I have to admit, some of them have become renound (reknowned?) for their work, don't think there is any single surgeon in Ireland that as of yet stands out from the crowd.

So it wasn't the case that Mr Malhas just happended to be free from surgery on the day of your consultation, you actually requested him for your consultation? He was a recommendation from your GP? I think it would be a little hesitant/embarrassed to ask my GP.

I certainly would not be going to thailand or any place other than than IE/UK (€1 flights to stansted with ryanair/airlingus). Although I have read south africa is becoming popular with europeans to have surgery due to the reduced price, but as most of us here agree it's not about price alone.

Wonder if getting multiple procedures together is popular, I've read certain procedures often 'go together' . Anyhow thanks for your thoughts on this so far, really big help. I'm sure everyone can understand that it's not something I want to rush into....

Jesus, id be very wary of getting plastic surgery, some of the results look very unnatural, . I actually find slight imperfections quite sexy on girl’s, like a little bump on the nose, or slightly crooked teeth, I don’t know maybe that’s just me, It’s really sad when girls feel the need to resort to plastic surgery when they really don’t need it.

Although I can sympathise, if it’s lowering the quality of someones life, like in school one of the guys had real sticky out ears and he used to get ripped the piss out of him everyday, saw him a few years back and he had his ears pinned back and looked a lot better for it tbh

Bottom Line = You get what you pay for.

Buy a Lada, get a Lada reliability

Buy a Honda, get Honda reliability

Get cheap plastic surgery, expect cheap results.

Don't go cheap. This is something you will have to live with for the rest of your life.

    My 2 cents.

Why is it wrong? Have you got something to back this ignorant statement with?

Surgeons in thailand are highly regarded worldwide, especially due to the extensive work they do with transsexuals in their country.

Think about it like this : If a surgeon can make silicone/saline implants look reasonably natural on a man, it follows that they'll do a great job on a woman, where the frame is accomodating to this kind of change.

There's a huge amount of patients from australia and the states going there.

Personally, I had laser teeth whitening done there, for 150 euro, and the standard was far better tham Ireland.

So sportswear, stop the scaremongering, and try not to talk out your arse.

    Plastic Surgery.

    Yeah?

    TEKNO SURGICAL
    Unit 4, Block A
    Centrepoint Business Park
    Oak Road, off Nangor Road
    Dublin 12 Ireland

Didn't realise that they do that in business parks.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 394 ✭✭sportswear

dunno about that place but advanced cosmetic surgery is right beside where i live and its located in owenstown business park, so yeah you do find them in business parks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭Brown_Eyed_Girl

Advanced Cosmetic Surgery, operate in Owenstown House which is off Foster's Ave, a quiet residential area just beside UCD.

But I believe that the Beacon Clinic is absolutely fab a top class private clinic and that is in Sandyford Ind Estate.

As for travelling abroad for cosmetic surgery, I didnt say that I had a problem with it I am sure that the surgeons there are just as good as here, I just feel that it is nice to have your clinic nearby so that you can pick up the phone if you are worried about anything.

ACS definitely. Think about it really, the average person cr@ps themselves over surgery, why would you need the complication of travel? If its within your finanical boundaries, I think you should get it done here. I had several ops before - not cosmetic, so hopping into a taxi to the Southside was no bother to me. My op was 6,500e. After losing baby weight + 2st, I was left with loose skin. Just because I had kids, it doesnt mean I need to look like it. ask my @rse :)

shock_treatment and everyone thanks for your replies, I'm guessing you got some sort of lipo done then on your stomach, what was your experience of ACS, in terms of all the different factors such as end results, cost, staff etc.

Did you choose ACS as opposed to anyone else for any particular reason?

I wonder do these places make prices available on request?
