I know two people at work who were asked for the same thing. They sent on a copy of their driving licence and they got their purchases no bother. I also bought stuff off them but was never asked for any verification. Maybe it's just a random security thing.

It is a random security thing. I wouldn't be too comfortable about it myself, but they do forward on the goods afterwards. Your choice. :)

    thanks for that lads
dye think i must forward on these details to them in order to get the goods i ordered
    thanks again lads

its only a random security check, its good to see companies take extra precautions to stamp out credit card fraud, although some tree hugging beatnik liberalist anarchists cant see the logic in it ;)

Just got one of these as well

Not too pleased as I paid via Laser and its a debit card and not a Credit card, so the Money was already taken Out...But..
    Scanned in my utility bill..
Got a phone call from them asking for more details...like my Visa Card number that I had used previously on the secure web site for another order a few weeks back...Jesus..Anyone heard of Phishing

Its Great going on about their security..what about ours?

cancelled order, wasted my time, will go back to Amazon

Yeah a few companies use this method, although I'm not too comfortable doing it, Pixmania seem like a reputable company and I know a great deal of people who have used them.

Ok but remember Amazon won't send electronic goods to Ireland anymore....

I used Pixmania a few weeks ago and had no problems or security checks.

Only thing that annoyed my was that for postage it only gave they DHL
24/48 hour delivery option. I paid for that but because I placed the order
just after 11am on a Wednesday it didnt get delivered until the following
    Tuesday!

never Knew that about Amazon and electronic goods

Just tried it there and got the following message

*** We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order by changing its quantity to 0 and clicking the update button below. ( See geographical restrictions.) ***

I was trying to buy a little MP3 player...

I have bought loads of stuff from amazon over the years but never knew they changed their policy about electronic goods being sent Ireland.
Especially as they have a big office now in Cork.

    Sound store must be delighted!!

Speaking of Amazon not shipping electronics to Iraland, apparently
you now cannot buy blank CD's there as they are catagorised as
    electronic goods.

I refuse to deal with any company that looks for this crap and have cancelled some very large orders because of it

That kind of "crap" costs businesses a lot of money each year to deal with. It would be a different story if someone used your credit card and not be verified. :)

I cancelled an order with pixmania because of this too. I always get goods delivered to work. because my delivery address was different to my billing address Pixmania wanted a letter from work verifying that i was an employee. Madness.

    you're right John

I will never give out more information again, except whats on my Card

When a delivery is going to the address of the card holder, what justification do they have to gather more information...where is it placed, the information like pixmania that they are looking for:

    * If you are opting for delivery to the same address as your invoice address, please send us something that has your name and address on it from the following :
o A copy of your driving licence, OR
o A copy of your social security card, OR
o A copy of your bank statement, OR
o A copy of your council tax bill, OR
o A copy of a recent utility bill.

    * If you are opting for delivery to a work address, please send us :
o A copy of your passport, driving license or recent utility bill, AND
o Company letterhead or business card, with switchboard number that we can call to verify that you work there.

    * If you are opting for delivery to a private address that differs to your billing address, please send us:
o A copy of your passport, driving license or recent utility bill, AND
o A copy of a driving licence, recent utility bill, or something else that has the name and address of the person who will accept delivery.

Where do they keep this information?
    Is it secure?
Its a lot of information to keep on some one these days --especially now with all the Scams about and phishing methods that are around

Ocuk did the same 2 me. Wouldn't process order until i proved my identity. Once you do this you dont have 2 do it again & all orders are processed straight away.

Maybe I'd feel different except for the fact that everything they look for and the way in which they look for it allows all the documents to be easily faked which makes the entire process useless. When OverClockersUK held an order of mine I was severely tempted to send them a bank statement from “The First National Bank of Bull****” showing my real address but instead I canceled a £750 order. It made no difference to them that I had made orders totaling over £3,000 in the past 4 years using the same card, the same name, the same phone number, the same email address, the same invoice address & the same delivery address.

Any company that assumes I'm a criminal when I try and place an order is not going to get my business.

Stay away from Pixmania - they sell cheaply but treat customers like sh1te - if anything goes wrong, you'll be waiting at least 30 minutes before they pick up the phone. I unfortunately bought from them, had problems, got no result, had to report them and eventually sorted them out myself. I'm not the only one - look for the threads all over the net. Stay away!

As for the security checks, I sent them bank statements with every detail other than my name and address blacked out with a graphics program - same with my driving licence.

Agreed, their verification process is a load of tosh (as is alot of other companies, expansys is the same) but something has to be done. I'm not saying they are correct either. :)

I had to do it for OcUK. I blacked everything out and I mean everything out apart from my name and address. It was basically a black blank page with my name and address!
