Well, since the cheapest 17" on Komplett is €214, I'd say yes. ALso, any chance of telling us where you got it, as I'm sure there's lots of people wondering. Oh, and the make as well :)

Yeah my TFT is 8ms and its WAY better than a 16ms response time. Do you understand what you mean by response time?

If you are refering to the number of colours a screen can display, and that it is usually (but not always) proportional to a decrease in response time then you are right, if you need your TFT to display as many colours as possible for, say, CAD, then a lower response time might be bad in cheap LCDs. But most reputable suppliers will keep the color variety (i.e. 16+ million colors) and also drop the response time.

Here is a rough guide i came across for what to look for: LCD guide

Sorry to say, but a response time of 16ms is pretty bad, especially for fast paced games. Your going to get ghosting on that monitor. A way to test it is to move the mouse fast across the desktop, if you can see its image "ghost" or trail off behind it then its not a good LCD.

I have one question though, how come you can get a 17" LCD at 1280x1024, and the max you seem to be able to get a 19" is also 1280x1024? shouldn't the pixel width and height increase with an increase in size... i mean shouldn't there be an extra 2"'s of transistors displaying colour?

Erm....not compared to the one you just bought.

I got myself a 19in Acer al1916w widescreen monitor with 8m response time last week for just 300 euro :) It's been ok for most of the first person shooters i play. A tiny bit off ghosting but only when you are really really looking for it.

I just got myself a 17" TFT off komplett that has 4ms. Lower response time = better, not worse.

    thanks :)

    lol...

so what are down points in this 16ms one?, i don't play games on the PC, maybe poker online but that would be.

can anyone tell me how can i test my current 15" to see what ms is?

A 16ms response time is not 'crap', I remember when a 25ms response time was quite desirable and believed ideal for all games. You've been listening to too much corperate spin.

Just because a new screen is 'faster' doesn't mean the older ones suddenly got slower (although the way people talk about it you'd think they had). A 16ms screen is fine for playing games, I bought a Hitachi CML174SXWB 16ms TFT, quite a popular gaming screen, for €160 a year or so ago and Im very happy with it. Sure, if you want to be pendantic you could squish your face up against the screen and probably notice some ghosting (I don't notice it at all to be honest) but who's going to do that during a game of CS?

I say, enjoy your new TFT and forget about people telling you its got a crap response time. When 1-2ms screens come out people will probably be calling 8ms screens crap for gaming.

thanks TomCo, i was a bit p'ed off when i learned the lower was the better cause i was looking on eBay for about 2 hours making the right decision..

i think for the price i got it at it's still a good purchase. i don't play games. i'm gonna try it out when i get it and if it's ok i'll hold onto it, if it's crap i'll sell it on and maybe go for a 19".

sorry to ask this again but, how if possible can i test the ms of my current TFT, is there a program i can run?

    Thanks :)

While you are more or less right...the problem is once you've had a "better" response screen and then go back to the older screen you do tend to notice the flaws that you wouldn't have before hand.

Happened to me with my new screen compared to the old 25ms response 15" lcd i had had.

EDIT: BTW if you don'y play games any screen is more or less fine Roger

    here's one TFT/LCD test i found - http://tireal.com/tfttest.zip

i can't seem to find one that will test the ms speed

look at the Neovo F-419 here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/lcd19.html 19" with DVI. Works out at €230 ex VAT, and has very good colours.

Low response times are just a gamer fad atm, all panels in the entire world come from the same two factories (Philips and Samsung) anyway, just the way of measuring the characteristics differs from company to company.
