Dublin v Mayo

Big game for Dublin, they really need a win to move away from the relegation zone. I would expect them to be extra motivated on saturday being in front of their own fans. Caffrey wants a more traditional physical approach which is odd given that he has a plethora of small but talented forwards.

Mayo have been on fire save for a poor performance against an even poorer Cork. Last year this fixture produced a thriller with Dublin winning by the slimest margin. Most pundits are going for a Mayo win but I'm not so sure. What are odds the odds on a draw?

Great win for teh Dubs it seems.

TG4 are showing a repeat or just highlights today?

Great win for Dublin.I'm interested to see what Culchie has to say :)

The results I wanted came true.Mayo, although I want them to win the league, are still on top as Tyrone did Mayo a favour by beating Kerry.

Mayo are 14/1 to win Sam I hear.If Conor Mortimer and Ciaran McDonald do the business I can certainly see Mayo in the final.Dublin on the other hand are running hot and cold.We should have beaten Cork and Fermanagh.Losing by the slimest of margins.Dublin have been unlucky to get so many away fixtures in the league.

Fermanagh,Cork,Kerry and Tyrone away and Monaghan,Mayo and Offaly at home.Next year I think Dublin will play in Castlebar against Mayo.

Great win al right. the first half was very even with both teams playing some good fottball but Dublin really over ran Mayo in the second half and totally deserved the win. The sending off didnt make much of a difference because Dublin were in total control at that stage anyway. Great result.

Well I wasn't going to post, win or lose, as I'm just watching the season progress with interest....however as you did ask, I will comment.

Firstly and most importantly, even if Mayo won, I wouldn't get carried away, as it was a league game, and both teams were not at full strength.

I think Mayo overran Dublin in the first 15 minutes or so, brimming with confidence from their previous 5 wins, and looks like we have found a good forward in Andy Durcan.

However they folded when Dublin got the two goals, it really was disappointing to see them fold so quickly. (btw, the Dublin peno was dubious to say the least, and Mayo had a nailed on peno ignored, even though the ref had his arms out for a penalty :confused: ).

Whelan getting injured was a blessing in disguise for the Dubs, Magee was brilliant, as was Cullen at the vital time of the match.

Mayo were missing the two Mortimers, McDonald, David Brady and McGarrity ...5 certain starters come championship time.... so the feeling in Mayo is that the defeat will bring them back to ground with a bump, and in the grand scheme of things, may not be a bad thing.

I've always been fair to Dublin, I think they got stuck in and really showed some killer instinct when they smelt weakness in the Mayo midfield area, Mayo goalie was very poor. My favourite player Heaney is starting to struggle now too much for comfort, we need to find a full back very soon.

Not despondent at all..... All things considered, I'd back Mayo to beat Dublin if they meet again this summer.

Reality check for Mayo and another enigmatic performance from Dublin.

Dublin have Kerry next while Mayo have Tyrone. Both games will give each teams supporters a good idea where the teams are in the national pecking order.

The Dubs will have to be pleased with both the result and the performance. They made the better of the conditions and it wasn't their fault the ref was easily influenced by the crowd. Quinn and Brogan took their goals very well while Quinn absolutely buried the peno. They took some nice points as well notably Darren Magee and Brogan though the game was over as a contest by then.

Mayo will be disappointed. No leadership and a lack of appetite for a scrap seemed to be the big problems towards the end. That would be very worrying. While there are still a few important players to come in such as McDonald and the Mortimers we had probably our best 6 defenders out and still conceded 4-10. Not good enough.

Just a point. The media today are attacking Mayo supporters for overhyping their team and thinking winning Sam is a mere formality. ( This abuse usually reserved for the Dubs ). No county knows more than us how hard it is to win Sam or indeed any All Ireland.

The team has been hyped by the media purely to sell papers. I have no problem with that but I get annoyed when they get their predictions wrong they blames the fans or the whole county or anyone but themselves.

Culchie, gracious in defeat.By no means do I take any pleasure in seeing Dublin beat Mayo as I've got Mayo blood in me also.

I heard from a team mate that Mayo are 14/1 to win Sam but I think Mayo have a very good chance. As I mentioned a few weeks previously, anything less than the Connaught championship and a semi final will be deemed as a poor season for Mayo.I certainly think Mayo should win Connaught as Galway aren't on form and Mayo are beating the likes of Kerry and Cork.

Dublin on the other hand are performing mediocre. You have no idea what team will come out.Dublin have been unlucky in the matches against Cork and Fermanagh which were both away,in dreadful conditions and Dublin reduced to 14 men in both matches. They lost by 1 point in both as well. The match against Monaghan was dreadful with players seemingly apprehensive to get stuck in after Omagh one week previous.

I can see Dublin at least getting to the quarters.

Mayo were without the Mortimers and Ciaran McDonald.Dublin were without Sherlock and Ciaran Whelan came off injured. If we still had Darren Homan playing for us,we would have a near perfect squad. He is missed big time.

I don't think the league serves as a big indication of things to come.Dublin did not play to their full potential in last years league, losing to Tyrone and Kerry and drawing with Fermanagh and they had a successful season. This year we are playing worse in the league,so who knows,Dublin could win leinster and get in the semi final or either lose leinster and get no further than the qualifiers or quarter finals.Only time will tell.

Didn't see the game, but I heard Moran gave up the "three full forwards standing in the square" tactic in the first half. About bloody time. Was at the last two Mayo home games, and it was patently obvious this tactic was not working, yet Moran persisted with it. Maybe if he was encouraging the use of quick ball into the full forwards it might have a chance, but we're overusing the dreaded handpass! We won't win an All-Ireland playing that type of football.

I think Conor Mortimer has been missed, but hopefully the return of Ciaran Mac and David Brady will improve things. Still hopeful for the Championship. As said above, I think Mayo should be aiming for the Connacht title, and an All-Ireland semi.
