if, for example, you farted loudly in a quiet public place with a strong echo (such an old library, or the old scary part of the Mater hospital) and everybody looks at you, saying "my bad, sorry" is a way of owning up and apologising in one go. Its a crap phrase though.

"My bad" has been around for donkeys years. I used live in NY and often used it, still do in fact. If you fcuk something up thats when you say it.

that's assuming they let you beat them up which is doubtful. Used it for the first time today on boards, which is also where I heard it, maybe you inspired me? Personally I don't see what the problem is, there are far more interesting things to get upset about, what are you like on a bad day?

Ok, but 'yeah yeah blah blah blah' makes a certain amount of sense. maybe just because its been around for so long. besides its not really a saying as such.
