if, for example, you farted loudly in a quiet public place with a strong echo (such an old library, or the old scary part of the Mater hospital) and everybody looks at you, saying "my bad, sorry" is a way of owning up and apologising in one go. Its a crap phrase though.

perhpas you should stop worrying about other people and start worrying about yourself?

i mean if something like that annoys you, then you obviously have little to be doing with your time.

anyway, what i should have said was not it comes form buffy, but rather that it was made 'popular' by buffy.

hey, ive been saying it for years, and im pretty hip and trendy.
    dude.

that's assuming they let you beat them up which is doubtful. Used it for the first time today on boards, which is also where I heard it, maybe you inspired me? Personally I don't see what the problem is, there are far more interesting things to get upset about, what are you like on a bad day? :D

"My" is a possessive pronoun, a shortened version of "mine", originally used in place of "mine" before all consonants except "h". Now, it has generally replaced "mine" as a preceding possessive pronoun. It means "belongs to me".

"Bad" is an adjective, which has been commuted into noun form, and is used to describe something which is unpleasant. It's origins are largely unknown, but it is said to come from "baeddel", which means "effeminate man, hermaphrodite, pederast". Popular use was rare before the 1400s.

Possessive pronoun + noun = Cogent sentence e.g. "his car".

    I don't see the problem.

Meh, don't take it personally. If you start a thread about grammar, people tend to pick apart everything. Besides, it was screaming at me..

Ok, but 'yeah yeah blah blah blah' makes a certain amount of sense. maybe just because its been around for so long. besides its not really a saying as such.

Oops my bad makes no sense at all. Its like a half finished sentence or something. And besides that. People who use it are trying to sound cool. but they dont sound cool they sound.... spazmo ;)

:D Hold up, what do you mean commuted into noun form? As in its officially a noun? Says who? All this pseudo academic back-up sounds very suspect....
