Coming home with a love for Hold'em

Since Australian immigration aint my biggest fans I've decided to return to Dublin for a couple of months at least. Since being away I've had my aussie and kiwi mates turn me on to the wonders of No limit Texas Hold'em.

One of the things that is softening the blow of returning to poxy Ireland is what seems to be the dramatic rise in the popularity of poker. I've only been playing for about six months and all my games have been friendly affairs sitting around my kitchen table with 6 or seven friends having a few beers. I've never played in a card club like this place the Fitz that I keep hearing about and to be honest I'm a little nervous about making the transition from my nice friendly home games in sydney to a proper card club with serious players? How did people here find the transition from home game to playing out in a club? I'm just kind of worried that there might be components of the game that I would be unaware of when I first sit down at a proper table.

Along with wanting to take the next step into proper tournaments/games I dont want to give up the relaxed home games. I defo dont have the kind of bankrolls that some of the people here talk about so would still be very interested in playing low stakes games for like a tenner buy in to a stt. Do these go on or is everyone here too serious to play those type of games anymore?

    Thanks for your time

    ChRoMe

Ps long time no see Tom dont worry I'm not the same head wrecking muppet that I was in my 16 year old quake days :)

Do the €10/€20 stts still take place during the afternoon in the fitz? Ive often been bored in town and wondering if I could kill an hour or two

Stts in the Fitz are probably more likely on a weekend afternoon than weekday. Although the place is open 24hr now (table games at any rate) so you never know. STT's generally 10euro a go.

Freerolls (free entry, 10euro for buy-ins after that which are unlimited for a certain period) are in the Fitz on a thursday and a sunday evenings.

I wouldn't be nervous about going to the fitz, i went there for the first time last night for the freeroll. It's good craic and a good atmosphere as well there being plenty of newbies like myself who are in the same boat!!

if you do go for the freeroll though don't bother rebuying(10E for 700chips) just make it to the break and top up for 10E getting 1500chips!!

    good luck

Sounds like you need to learn to play Chinese poker.

Apologies I just feel that I have experienced a much higher standard of living in other countries and I'm not very happy about returning to the dark cold weather and really high prices.

For me personally I dont think Ireland has a lot to offer. Sorry If i offeneded you.

Well, according to yourself, it seems to be the only place that's prepared to have you, so maybe you should make the best of it?
