My pc packed in the other night.
    I got a new laptop.
I cant find the disk for installing NTL broadband.
They can only send one up from Waterford and it will only arrive on Monday.

I cant handle 3 days without poker (have already had 2)

Apparently any NTL broadband installing disk will do.
Does anyone else have one, i can call over to whereever and borrow it?

    Thanks

If you have an up-to date OS version 2000+ you shouldn't need the USB disk. But as I recently got the upgrade I can give you the option of either coming to Templeogue before 8pm tonite to collect it, going to Terenure to where I work after 9 to collect, or give me your email and Ill use this wonderful internet thingy to mail it to you.

Similarly I never had an installation disk for NTL. PC came from Dell, I plugged it in and it worked striaght off.

really, hmmm, i got the laptop, plugged in the broadband, and it said something about an unknown usb?

    I figured i musta needed a disk.

Its a bang up to date, new laptop, so it should work.

    Anyone any ideas?

Im guessing now its not the fact that i need a disk, maybe something to do with a firewall or something like that.

I might give them another ring and see what they say.

    Thanks guys.

Does it come directly from the NTL cable or does it go through a moden first?

If it goes through a modem you will need the Moden driver which you would get on the CD. If its directly through the cale it is probably just a network your on and in that case it may be a firewall problem but that may not be the case seein as how it is saying unknown usb device.

My NTL 250 modem also provides an ethernet port which I use instead of USB. So if your laptop have an ethernet port you can use it and no install disks needed.

Yes you're better off using a network cable (aka ethernet) between the modem and your PC than using the USB cable. Should just work then. Usual advice is power off modem and pc then power on modem only then power on PC, but you've probably done that.
