No phone line for SKY

I want a FTA system and it looks to me that the best deal going at the moment is actually through SKY themselves, what with free equipment/installation and also 4 months at half price. The plan is to get this and cancel it when the 1 year sub is up.

However I looked at their website and it looks like I need a phone line to sign up with them. This I do not have, well thats' technically not true as there is a phone line in my house it's just not connected as we both have company paid mobiles it seems pointless for us to have a land line also.

Anyway, is there anything I can do to bypass this?? Someone mentioned to me that I could pay a charge to remove this but why should I have to pay just cos I don't have a phone?? It's not as if it's costing them anything extra by me not having a phone?? Is it??

hey... im in the same situation at the min also. I got sky a couple of weeks ago and I got the 'no phone line offer' I had to pay 35 euro to get this tho. And the installation after this was free.:)

I thought actually it was 37.50 extra to get Sky without a phone line. But I won't quibble over 2.50.

My SKY is being installed tomorrow with the "no phone option" (€37.50). Like you I do have a phone but it is a business line and didn't want it connected to the system. Some friends of mine in the same situation (but they didn't have a phone) got the install done on Monday. The engineer placed the box and dish up but didn't call SKY to activate the card because on his sheet they had the "no phone option" and so he wasn't obliged to do anything but setup the dish and box. My mate rang SKY himself to activate and was told he had to leave the card in the box for 24hrs to download all the channels! I rang SKY too to check if this was true and the lady told me it shouldn't be 24 hrs and that she knows a lot of people simply run a cable from their phone jack, activate the card and then disconnect it once done. So it sounds like this is an empty threat rather than an actual "cut you off if not connected"

I got Sky in a few years ago and they claimed it had to be connected to the phone line.

However i was messing about behind my TV a few months after it was installed and notice that the phone cable wasn't even plugged into the back of the Sky box.

Does this apply to SKY+? I have ordinary SKY at the moment and have disconnected the phone line. Would I need to have the phone line put back in if I wanted to upgrade?

In theory they want phone line for Sky+. In practice you can unplug it as long as you don't have a mirror sub.
