To be honest 1099 is alot of money these days for just a base tower.

I can't make out all the specs, but a Pentium D would be a bad buy for this price.

I'd expect an AMD x2 for this price, Pentium D's are actually quiet underpowered in comparison. I'd wait for a system with a x2 or the new Intel Conroe chips that look like real performers.

I'd like to answer "yes" to that question and I'm interested myself but I'd really like to know who the HDD manufacturer is (Medion?)... I only buy Maxtor myself...

any ides what OS the PC comes with. Media Center edition perhaps?

THe Operating system is XP, it comes with Power Cinema which is similar to media software except it is wireless off the included card so you do not need line of sight, you can hook the PC to your tv and then view pictures, avi's, tv etc etc via the wireless remote

i've got them and they're ok. my first set were dead, so got a replacement. the box had been damaged, but i didn't see it in the shop. what i have now are fine, except a while back the centre speaker was picking up the wind outside. it was very quiet tho, and disappeared after a few days

I would say yes. AMD64 self build would be faster and cheaper for gaming IMO.
