International Rules game to be played in Galway

I can't understand the thinking behind putting one of the International Rules games on in Pearse Stadium. I think its a good idea to stage a game outside Dublin, but I don't know how Pearse was picked. Surely Thurles, Pairc Ui Choimh or the Gaelic Grounds would have been a better choice, or even Clones. Pearse is hell to get into and out of, and the capacity is limited. It is dangerously crowded on Connacht Final day, and thats with approx. 30,000 there.

I'd agree with you, elurhs. Good idea to take the International rules out of Croker, for one match at least but the venue that was chosen is questionable.

If it had floodlights, thurles is the place to go IMO. It is a hell of a lot easier to get out of than pearse stadium and can hold approx. 20,000 more.

They paid a **** load to get it built and are now mad in debt. Maybe they got this to help them out a bit. Also, its due to have lights installed. And the Australian team traditionally (well for the few years that this has been going on) spent the week before the first test in Galway. Im sure it'll be given to a different province every time.
