4 (Download) +1 (Upload) settings on a handset

Hi, Does anyone know if this can be changed on a handset or datacard. Say I was connecting to GPRS with my laptop and mobile using say O2's internet APN. Is there any initialization string I can use to change to 2+2 maybe. My uploads would be equivalent to my downloads so 4+1 is not suitable Cheers.
