...... showed Limerick people how to play poker. I havnn't played the weekly at the Greenhills since before Vienna as I've been up to my man boobs with work and personal stuff. It's changed from the 50 rebuy to a 100FO but it really doesn't make much difference to the tournament as the average stack works out to be about the same deeper into the tournament.

53 players showed up. I drew a really good first table full of players I already knew and had reads on so I was able to buy a lot of pots against the solid players and get paid off by the bad ones. I was lucky enough to flop a flush over flush and double up by level 2. I got dealt AK and AQ quite a few times and they held up most of the time so by the break I was up to 16K from the starting 6.

Straight after the break I won a decent pot with Kings but after my table broke I went card dead for wquite a while and wasn't able to get involved for about an hour as athe blinds started catching up. At the 300-600 and 400-800 levels my stack Yo-Yoed as I tried to bully the table but I just never seemed to hit a flop. Then at 500-1000 when I was down to just 12K the player on the button open raised to 3. SB folded. I looked down at AJ, knew I was ahead and went all in. I was amazed to get called by JQ and my hand held up. I can't believe the calls players in Limerick make against me. Yes I know I can make the same move with 67 but FFS JQ? Connie told me about a hand he'd played against a player who later got moved to my table. Connie open limps with KT in the CO and blinds stay in. Flop J-6-5. Connie bets 600. BB calls. Turn is a Queen. Check to Connie who bets 1200. BB calls. River is a blank. Check to Connie who bets 2000 holding King high. BB calls with 44 which was an underpair to the entire board. Is it any ****ing wonder that someone like me is head and shoulders above 99% of the players in Limerick when there are idiots like that playing poker?

Back tot he tournament. I took hits with AK against 55 and with 44 against A8losing both times to shortstacks. This put me in trouble but I moved in and stole the blinds quite a few times to keep my head abover water. Down to the last 14 and the Button who is a decent player moved all in for a very painful amount. Painful because it gave me pot odds ot almost exactly 2:1. I'm already relatively shortstacked and I am holding QT. Now because the Button is a decent player I know he will make this move with a lot of hands so I decide I have to call and I'm delighted to see he has JT. Flop comes down K-Q-T which game him an up and downer AND a flush draw and he hit and Ace on the turn for the straight. That left me crippled. Very next hand it's folded to me in the small blind and I go all in qith Q2 sooooted. I'm called very quicky by 8To. WTF? He wasn't priced in at all I definitely had enough chips to convince him to fold. I'm happy with his call though because my hand held up. I took the blinds once more next hand before 2 players busted at once on the other table and we were down to 8.

On the final table I had 25K and was the shortstack with blinds 1500/3000.200. The first hand I played wias an all in UTG with AQ and took the blinds. Very next hand my BB is button raised and I push with AJ convinced I'm ahead. I'm called by KQc. The flop came down a really scary 6-9-T with 2 clubs making him a favourite but 2 bricks landed on the board to keep me in the game. After that I just cut through the entire table like a ****ing samurai sword. Every pot I entered I won and moved my stack to over 100K by the time 4 players were left and I'd secored my satelite ticket.

When it was down to 3 I was chip leader but the stacks were relatively even. I decided it was best to chop as the 2 other players were sound and the deal gave us all more than second place money. I got the IPT points for first. The ticket was for Kilkenny but I'm gona head tot he city west and play this Friday.Don't expect anything from me though as my record in the IPT Supersats is a joke. I'll be the guy sitting on his chips waiting for Aces all through Day 1.

Nice one nicky, good to see you back on form.I was last out b4 the final table.Low stack(16,000)when ye lost a player on the other table ,dealer was told "final table" once our hand was completed.I was in the c/o with 7s-8s and with everyone folded to me,I fired all-in to either pick up the blinds and antes or get doubled up b4 the final table.Called by the BB with A-Q,no help from the board for either of us although i had flush draw on the river as well, and it was home for me.very enjoyable tourney though but i was surprised with the small turnout(53).surely theres more serious poker players in limerick?why do you think the numbers are so small?

I think the numbers are small because of the large number of pub games sponging up people's money. You can find 2 or 3 tournaments around town every night of the week now.

I can't decide who played this hand worse. The guy who calls down an overaggressive bluffer holding the best hand all the way, or the guy who decided to try a three barrel bluff against a calling station.
