Worrying observations on Irish people online and in general

Don't take any of this too personally, I probably won't reply in case people do. But I made some observations in another thread and I think people should see them.

Basically, Irish people as a whole are pretty "young" at the internet and not self aware. My attitudes here may be perfecetly acceptable on another board, or get me banned for saying the word "Clock" elsewhere, so that's pretty irrelevant. The fact is that people on this board have very bad social intelligence and are unable to see past the rules put in front of them and question things, and make a better system. This is why I role my eyes when I hear about how this board evolved over so many years(yet people can still get 2 week suspensions or even perm bans over a singlemildly offensive post).

I think this is mostly reflective of the rather conservative way we're raised in. The catholic church still has a very strong hold on our country and we have the weakest "freak" scenes in all of europe. Quite frankly, we're one of the least individualistic countries in europe too. How do I know this? We embrace "Trendy" culture possibly more than any country in the world. Kids with mobile phones is one example, but a better is that hte Sony Playsation shifted more units per capita than any other country in the world. The Sony Playsation mostly suceeded and kicked the ass of the Saturn and N64 because it appealed to trendy people. This isn't isolated though, people consistently stick with trendy brands.

Thus, Irish people as a whole have a sheepish, "follow the leader" attitude. We will probably be the last country in Ireland to embrace gay marriage. We still have a lot of sexism in employment. We have hardly any activists anymore and quite frankly we have little creative effort.
We've been torturing the world with pop tat for years. Why is that? Again, Trendy culture. We don't have good scenes, so we don't have good music. We get a decent band once every so often, but nothing ground breaking like we used to(Virgin Prunes? U2? The Pogues? anyone else with me on this?).

It almost makes me miss the rebels that most Irish people no doubt adore despite their actual idealogy being the polar opposite of them. I always find it amusing but disturbing when people(from all over the world) say that you need to kill your individual appearance and possibly habits to "Play the system". And of course, guys cutting their hair off. Someone then posted a picture in that particular thread of Bob Geldoff, saying that recently, a guy with long hair and no suit tried to change the world.

But it's true, playing the system doesn't work on such a grand scale; it plays you.

We have so few true individuals in Ireland and it's frustrating me.

Irish people aren't used to the mentality of the internet regardless. I'm not fully sure if it's a bad thing or a good thing but it's bad for me. Unfortunately, I'm not the best at the internet either because I'm stuck back in 2001 when the Internet used to be a lot more lax and fun. That makes it very difficult for me.

I hope the following helped people better understand why I. There are a lot of things I love about Ireland too. Some of the people, the scenery, Cork, the decent standard of living, the mythology, the history. The angriness is probably nothing personal.

is this just a series of ill put together musings, or is there an actual point in your post?

why is it you are the only one with the problem and yet now you are blaming a country for these ill perceived problems?

    get over yourself.
get out of the house, go for a walk and stop taking yourself so fúcking seriously.
honestly, reading your posts is like reading the ramblings of a perpetual teenager.
just becuase youre a socially inadequate does not mean the rest of us should fit into your ideas of what society should be.

i think its time you just grew up.

Same to you as I said above. Also, didn't I demonstrate numerous times in other threads you no doubt participated in how challenging peoples maturity(or sexuality) is generally something people do when they know they don't have a point? They can't defend themselves logically so they challenge people's maturity instead, nobody wants to be immature after all. "Get over yourself and grow up" is a meaningless sentiment used by meaningless people. Learn to reason.

The problems aren't "ill percieved", they're quite apt and grounded in facts. Not that it matters. I could solve String theory and you'd spew out the same crap.

By all means, disect my post and tell my why it's wrong. Otherwise, you're just another person who never stopped to think about their society.

It's call adding half pence to the pence.

And some one got there to say it long be you did.

Don't obsess about the catholic church too much. I find Irish people do that and I don't beleive that they kicked and individuality out of us.

Most people in the world are materialistic and its how you view that materialism in yourself if people want to buy a playstation let them if we want to buy mobile phones let them.
Basically, Irish people as a whole are pretty "young" at the internet and not self aware.

It's pretty young itself. It's not that self aware of its self yet it was called the Dot com boom and burst.

When did anyone state that Westlife and Boyzone where trendy? Oh what you beleive that everyone in Ireland follows Louis Walshe? The Pogues aren't Irish :)(i know i regret writing it all ready.

Thus, Irish people as a whole have a sheepish, "follow the leader" attitude. We will probably be the last country in Ireland to embrace gay marriage. We still have a lot of sexism in employment. We have hardly any activists anymore and quite frankly we have little creative effort.

There is alot of sexism in employment around the world. We had the first elected Female to Westminister who stood up for indivuality and abstained from westminister and became Ireland first minister for Labour. (Can anyone tell me if she was the First female minister?). Countess Markivitch (sp?).

    Oscar Wilde.
I hope the following helped people better understand why I. There are a lot of things I love about Ireland too. Some of the people, the scenery, Cork, the decent standard of living, the mythology, the history. The angriness is probably nothing personal.

Why Cork? lol (I regret writing that too).

Also if someone wants to say something let them don't reduce it to mear slagging.

Let me look into your mind:

"Oh boy! Hey, this person right, has a problem with the way we don't like people who look different! But they all look the same haha! Because that's what everyone says isn't it? So they're obviously just immature and just some stupid goth or something and that's my entire argument. They should just accept they're wrong and grow up! BECAUSE! "Immaturity" works every time."

Amazingly accurate, no doubt. I had a little help from my good friend Captain Obvious.

Congratulations on your worthless fallicious debating tactics, sir. You're just part of the great idiotic machine we have in place of people challenging other people's maturity, sexuality and security so we never bloody well get anywhere as a progressive culture.

You're part of the problem. I could spend hours picking apart the "lol goths" or immaturity fallacy, but I suggest you read up on Wikipedia; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_logical_fallacies you'll probably find most of it there eventually.

Rosie you could ignor the bad postings in ur thread. I mean your going to get bad posting in your thread that are totally of the topic but you insist on replying to them.

It's like watch a child saying some that they feel is important and then being slagged of by everyone else. And the child has to make it worse by trying to come up with some kind of intelligent come back and all they can think of is "mmmmm....ur dad is a big eejit ..... uuuummm"

And all that stuff about Ireland not having any individuals and everyone following the leader - seriously, get out more.

I didn't think your first post merited anything regarding debating standards as it appeared to be a reactive rant following from your banning and lack of support in the feedback forum.

    Incidentally -
"let me look into your mind: -rubbish-" followed by throwing logical fallacy links at me?
    Isn't hypocrisy a wonderful thing.
Oh, and let's not forget your:
I'd call these replies a black hole of intelligence, but they suck AND blow.
    and
"Get over yourself and grow up" is a meaningless sentiment used by meaningless people.
Oh dear, is that an ad hominem? =(

Progressive culture? Is making 2 threads ranting about the internet because you got banned for being hateful progressive? I call it whiny.
And if you think that's progressive, I'm damn well glad you don't think our country is "progressive".
Basically, Irish people as a whole are pretty "young" at the internet and not self aware.
Of course we're self aware. We're sentient.
The internet itself is fairly young.
My attitudes here may be perfecetly acceptable on another board, or get me banned for saying the word "Clock" elsewhere, so that's pretty irrelevant.
If it's irrelevant why did you bring that up?
The fact is that people on this board have very bad social intelligence and are unable to see past the rules put in front of them and question things, and make a better system.
    Please prove that:
-people on this board have bad social intelligence
-people on this board are unable to see past the rules put in front of them
-people on this board do not question things
This is why I role my eyes when I hear about how this board evolved over so many years(yet people can still get 2 week suspensions or even perm bans over a singlemildly offensive post).

...Based on gaming consoles, your belief kids don't have mobile phones, and your personal taste in music?
Irish people aren't used to the mentality of the internet regardless.
    Based on what?
    Oh, this? -
but it's bad for me. Unfortunately, I'm not the best at the internet either because I'm stuck back in 2001 when the Internet used to be a lot more lax and fun.
Ah, so you don't get along with people and so Irish people aren't used to the Internet.

THis isn't about "trends" as we have enough kids in Marilyn Manson hoodies as they is. They call under the follow the leader attitude. As I explained, challenging my age is a fallacy, and telling me to "stop whinging" is just reiterating what I already replied to.

"Seriously, get out more" is probably an even more meaningless sentiment. Regardless of my interpretation, there are several factual observations in that thread too that people seem to be denying. I'm not going to respond to any more replies that don't go into detail as to why I'm wrong/right. It's not about "I'm right and you're wrong", it's about "You're not even providing an argument". I only started replying because the first too were so incredibly ridiculously stupid.

Like the article says, it isn't attendence that matters. The ideals of the catholic church are still in our mentality.
...Based on gaming consoles, your belief kids don't have mobile phones, and your personal taste in music?

And what's wrong with those observations? And it's not my personal taste in music. It's a *Fact* that the Irish music scene is less diverse and much more Pop orientated than it used to be.

Maybe some people like that, but it's still a sign of declining individuality.
Ah, so you don't get along with people and so Irish people aren't used to the Internet.
    That's a great conclusion.

I'm getting really tired of people saying things as if I said them that I really didn't say.

But none of this is really my fault. Maybe I'm "egging people on" but the same perosn has hardly even posted twice for that to happen, so many stupid people posting. People jumped at me as soon as I posted it. Proof of what I was saying in the other thread if ever I needed it.

If you are going to let the nonsence get to you and you show it then you don't have a chance of someone agreeing with you or even considering your arguement.

This whole post reeks of denial, to be perfectly honest.

    You said it.

God Rozie, why do you need to give voice to paranoid thoughts that enter your head? These theories of yours as to why you have such a hard time of it are just that, theories. Next week you'll have some different theories, and the week after that more theories again. Why not escape the frustration? Go, unplug from the net, lie down. Visit your student welfare officer or student counselling service in the morning. You'll feel better for it.

    Yeah, that's a decent argument.
    Do you see any argument?
You see arguments everywhere, it appears to be your thing.
    Idiot.
    Silly me.
I'm sorry, I'll be over here "Keeping It Real".
It's unfortunate that the rest of the world is messed up and you are the only 'true' individual left.

My serious advice is for you to go and see a counsellor. No, I'm not taking the piss.

    It was sarcasm you dolt.
And you STILL don't understand why people react badly to your angry angry posts. It boggles the mind. Really it does.

Was my original post angry? I specifically said it wasn't meant to be personal. People aren't even considerring things from my point of view, just leaping in with the rest. Sheep Mentality. Stop proving me right if you want me to shut up.

For your own sanity rosie, let this go for a few days then have a look a some constructive replies and don't reply to the other ones. It doesn't matter what age you are it was a retorical question.

I am assuming that you want to know what other people views are on this but as you urself have point out those replies (good ones) have been over shadowed by you and other who a only posting heated personal agruements. You said urself in your first post that you did think people would react well. You knew that some of the replies wouldn't be honest.

I hope the following helped people better understand why I. There are a lot of things I love about Ireland too. Some of the people, the scenery, Cork, the decent standard of living, the mythology, the history. The angriness is probably nothing personal.

Spike perhaps it's not much of an arguement (and I amn't sticking up for rozie here) but rozie is allowed have an opinion and have posters comment on what he has said in this post and not what they have said in other threads.

don't joke about suicide Wertz its not needed. IMO its gone to far.

Darling, targeting anti-marketing types is as big a business as targeting marketing types. Continue the calculus.

Your pseudo-intellectual protest is a function of its target. The only reason you have the intellectual capacity to question to that level is that which was provided to you. Furthermore, the inevitable solitary conclusion of such pro-antitheses - moral relativism - is based in such flawed philosophical meanderings that it would make Freud wet himself at the thought of why one would draw such conclusions.

If the catholic church is "right", then its societal effect has no impact other than a transitory deviation. Any criticism of its effect is grounded in an unproven assumption that is ultimately as personality-driven as its opposing quant. We are all inherently affected by societal norms; and any pretence that you're not is laughable. If the social intellect of this is not to your desired level you are not going to change anything anyway, it seems. Conversely, I'm not going to change you.

Hey Rozie: First off, Ireland's pretty litigation-happy which explains why it's more difficult to get away with stuff. For one example of how this has affected Irish bulletin boards, look here. So that's a fair assessment of how the Internet might be more...tame in that regard.

But I don't agree with anything else you say. Ireland isn't a conservative country with conservative opinions (except on perhaps abortion and euthanasia) with a dominant catholic church. (Those two links were the quickest I could drag up and are by no means totally representative of a shift of Irish opinions, but you get the idea. Note that the drugs link is actually from Irishhealth.com, so a little reading between the lines is required.) Same-sex unions are incredibly likely to be legalised in Ireland this year with little or no opposition. I was a Nintendo boy, but the Playstation won around the world, not just in Ireland. (And it's odd that you use a corporate battle to try and define a culture of "not following the leader"). We don't have as many successful new bands because, first off, we got lucky with U2 et al (there's only 4 million of us, less back then) and secondly there's a lot more competition nowadays. In fact, most of your pop culture arguments are applicable to nearly every country in the developed world, and quite a few in the developing.

As for your statement that it's to do with the smaller "freak scene" in Ireland...While not having any kind of problem with the goth scene or any of the other alternative scenes, I've always thought it odd when goths and freaks determine individuality in completely superficial terms: clothes, hair, brands, etc. Shouldn't you judge somebody's individuality on their personality rather than what phone they have or what runners they wear? That viewpoint really bewilders me. It seems shallow and far more empty than any of the "herd" qualities that we in Ireland all seem to possess - according to you. I think that Irish people are really individual myself, but that's just an opinion.

Of course, my opinion is controlled by my Nokia 3210, so what do I know?
