    Apologies for hi-jacking other peoples threads looking for advice!
    I have started my own.
    I have a problem with some excess weight around my thighs, tummy.
    I have always been a healthy weight and i still am. (Stats: 5"6, 11st size 12)
    The last few months i got lazy, living off take-aways, every meal had a high carb and sugar/salt intake and i went through nearly a whole white sliced pan a day.
    I considered going on Atkins diet but after reading the book its quite restrictive!
    In the past 2 weeks i have cut out white bread altogether and replaced with wholemeal thick cutting bread. Reduced my salt intake and try not to eat convenience foods if at all possible. Restrict my take-aways to Sat nights. Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day (luckily i have a water cooler in my office).
    I hate veggies / fruit though. Ive tried apples, bananas, oranges just make me feel sick. Only veg i like are carrots, mushrooms, potatoes.

    So i would just like some advise really on how to lose the flabby tummy and get me back into me little tops for the summer :)

    well done, its a start.

    avoid them altogether. they aren't worth it for half an hour's pleasure

    As for the fruit and veggies, well they really are a hugely important part of any diet. Do you like smoothies? They're a really easy way to get fruit into you, but make them yourself, shop bought ones are full of sugar, and use whole fruits especially berries. Or make home-made soup, with lots of chunky veg. Add vegetables to tomatoe-based pasta sauces. If you like carrots eat carrot sticks as snacks during the day.

    Again, have you checked out the sticky at the top of the fitness page, that really has a lot of the basic info you need to know about eating right. Unfortunately there is no 'quick fix' and you can't spot reduce fat. Simply put, you need to eat right. Women will tend to collect fat around their bum and thighs anyway, so once you eat properly and exercise, you should start to see a change. To be very basic about it, cut out anything processed (sounds drastic but its necessary!!!), start making meals from scratch, cut out salt and adding sugar, eat 5-6 small-medium meals a day, eat lots of protein (eggs, lean meat, pulses, cottage cheese), good carbs (brown/ wholemeal pasta, rice, bread), only eat good fat (extra virgin oil oil, flaxseed oil, oily fish).

    Forget sit-up, bridging is the best.

    Exercise every day and weights at least 3 times a week.

    I'm with you on this - I hate a lot of veggies. However, I eat tons of veg every day. My gf's mother used to blend up lots of veg in her dinners to 'sneak' veg into her when she was a kid. She would cook curries, shepherd's pie, spaghetti bolgnaise... anything with a sauce.
    We do this now with practically all of our meals. Blend up any veg you like - the more the merrier - and cook it in a pot (with the lid on) for a while, and then make the sauce as normal. We often make a huge vat of spag bol, shepherd's pie, curry or stew at the weekends. You won't taste the veg at all, but the sauce will be kinda thick. The beauty of this is that you can get a really diverse range of veg into the sauce, as it doesn't matter about the taste.

    Seriously - try this if you want to eat more veg.

    Smoothies are a similar solution, but I find fruit smoothies much tastier than veg-based smoothies.

    Thanks for that suggestion! I will try that the weekend with my boleganse sauce.

    Also are those new Vie drinks any use to help your "5-a-day" or are they just a gimmick??

    rivita crackers are a really good way of cutting out bread. they have a high GI number and stuff.
    and yoga is an easy way to tone up with out having to wreck yourself. you can do it at home too!;)

    absolute gimmick, as are most 'pro-biotic' drinks. Organic live yoghurt and veg or fruit smoothies are the only way to go.

    Spuds are tubors, they contain starchy carbohydrates amongst other things. With you on the rest, except that overhead pressing is even better than bridging :D .

    Lothaar, that's a great way to get the veg in! I often do something similar, or cook big pots of curry beef with loads of veggies through it, or chicken stir fry, or make cottage pie with a thick layer of veggies between the meat and potatoe. Towards the end of the week when my fresh veggies start to get a little,... less fresh(??), they all go in the pot and get souped. Just boil and simmer for a couple of minutes and then blend 'em up. Add seasoning (I like a ton of dill and basil with some blackpepper in a 'cauliflower/brocolli/onion/carrot/whatever else I got' soup).

    Luckily I also quite like my veggies and eat them just blanched too.

    Leanne, we usually make two huge pots of spag bol or whatever. One will do 2.5 of us for 3 days, and the other is divided into 3 and frozen to give us a further 3 days worth of dinners. It takes about 2/2.5 hours to cook the lot, most of which is reducing the sauce.
    Get some wholewheat pasta for the bolgnaise too. Much better than regular pasta.

    (Also, I'm not sure how healthy this is... but we put some thick-cut lean rashers into our bolgnaise sauce - it's Flavour City, and I'm the Mayor!)
