Getting No replies in dental issues

    So Not fair!

You may remember me from such posts as "Does the dentist Make you cry?" http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...p?t=2054901020

    Well I've just come off the phone to an even more upsetting senario;

The filling I got last week was €85.00 and I was told to fill out a form, that I might be entitled to €40 or so of it back because of PRSI.

Well my next apointment is in April and I'm booked in for 4 fillings (better for me to get them done and have it over with) and I was trying to work out a budget for myself. The very kind and helpful receptioist told me to contact some 1890 number to see if I'm entitled to any benifits.

After beeing left on hold for about ten minutes, the lady informed me that to be entitled to these benifits I have to have worked for 39 weeks year ending 2004...get this, I worked 38, I left for Oz in September 04 and had I stayed one more poxy week then my dental costs next month would amount to about €250.00 but because of some stupid small print and one bleedin week that I didn't work I have to fork out almost half a grand. It turns out I'm not entitled to any benifits until January 2007, I'll be on my way to New Zealand by then! I'm headin off travelling again in Sept.

So I'm throwing an unethical and unmoral idea around in my head, and I'm not looking for advice, I know its ilegal, but what would you do in my situation?

Supposing I was to get PRSI details off a friend who did work 39 weeks in 2004, and supposing I made an appointment with a dentist that doesn't know me or my friend and made the apointment in my friends name. Would it be really bad? The dentist wouldn't get in trouble because they wouldn't know and they'd still get paid cause I'd be paying half and my friends PRSI would be covering the other half. Or am I being really dodgy in a dell boy sorta way? I just feel really ripped off by the PRSI thing, I've worked since I was 18, never signed on, never claimed social benifit for sick days, money comes out of my wages each week and I get nothing in return because I missed one weeks work. It's just very unfair and I wish there was something I could do.

    Hey,

I dunno much about the legalities of cheating the PRSI, but could I perhaps recommend changing dentist? You didnt say where your from, but from my experience dentists in dublin can be much more expensive than anywhere else. also some dentists near the border only charge prices like those in Northern Ireland....ie about half price compared to dublin surgeries.

I went to one dentist in Carrickmacross in monaghan before christmas and was charged less than half of your cost for a check up and filling.

Just a thought, hope it helps!

    Not Your Ornery Onager

    Hope you trust your friend.

Scenario: You die, burned horribly. Body identified as your friend from dental records. Your friend gets to start a new life, while you remain dead.

Go north, my friend. Or, what are dental charges like in Antipodes?

ye exact same thing has happened to me, had to get one filling but may need to get route canal but also have 38 instead of 39 weeks work in 2004 so i am screwed this year. OP how long where you in oz as you probably don't even qualify for healthcare in 2007 unless you came back and where working from around the start of april last year, as in my case so i have to wait till 2008 to get any sort health cover again.

Hi i'm a student and my last visit to the dentist cost me 120Euro for ONE filling and since i don't work full-time being a student and all i can't claim anything. So 2moro i will be going up north for cheaper and better service to get the remainder of my fillings done. Would you consider the north? Its far cheaper.:)

do you speak polish? with flights and accomodation it is actually cheaper to see a dentist in Poland, and you get a holiday out of it too.

oconnoao: The dentist I go to is in Kildare so its prob still a bit cheaper than Dublin but I might get it even cheaper again if I go to the North. I'll be looking into this Thanks.

esel: I never actually thought of this, how naieve:rolleyes: but even if I did die why would they go to that paticular dentist for my records? Its just if a body was found and they had to identify it with dental records wouldn't the forensic notice I have loads of fillings but this dentist only did four and they'd eventually find my proper records (so hypathetical! would never happen) And whats antipodes?

jsb: I was in Oz for 8 months and worked from May 2005 until present day but am going travelling again in September and again will only have worked 30 something weeks in 2006 so won't have cover in 2008 either (I think you claim your cover 2 years later) Its so p0xy that they won't let you off a week either

bobbi: I am seriously considering the north as an option now, but as a very nervous patient I am reluctant to go to just any one, I guess under the circumstances I'm not in a position to be selective. Let me know how you get on and if you have any recomendations. Oh and as a student you get lots of discounts elsewhere...so you don't have it too bad

fitzgemme: yes thank you for your reply. I know its ilegal I did mention this in my opening post and I also mentioned that I didn't want advice on an ilegal matter but what I wanted was a what would you do in my shoes reply? Apologies if you mis-understood. Thank you for taking the time to post a reply to both the posts I apreciate it, even if it wasn't helpful to me

Hobbes: I can say hello in polish but travelling abroad for it is a definite no..no. I was crying getting the last filling done, how would I explain "No I'm ok, really, keep going to a pole"? No, certainly not an option, but thank you for the suggestion anyway.

Thanks, sorry if I p!ssed some of you off asking but in my defense I was asking what would you do in my situation, not someone please tell me how I can break the law!
