Just noticed that the EPG has changed to put Setanta, Channel6 and City Channel on 105, 106 and 107. Oh well, finally a use for the Favourites feature :)

They've missed a trick here. The UK channels should have moved to 111-114 (BBC1 - C4, respectively) and the Sky Sports channels should have moved back to 401 upwards to keep some logic to the system. Mind you, ntl and logic last met sometime during the 90s.

What ABC1 is doing up at 506 is a mystery as well. The whole 500 category, to be honest; half of it belongs in the 100s and the other half in the 200s, and QVC belongs in the bin.

Sort it out, ntl!

I can sort of vaguely understand Channel6 being in there (the jury's out for me until it actually starts), City Channel is just a pure waste of electrons and Setanta is a *sports* channel, put it back into the sports section where it belongs and I can ignore it like I have up till now. Can I lobby ntl: for a feature on the STB to permanently delete some channels?

Yes, just as I had suggested a few weeks ago, BBC News 24 has moved to 201 to replace ITV News and 206 now has BBC World, so an extra channel :)

Nice to see folks at NTL listen to my suggestions ;)

I'm going to have to reprogramme my TiVo's channels.

The reason Setanta, c6 and City Channel are where they are is because it reflects what most people assume would be the line up for DTT if it ever launches.

Yes that would have been a really good idea, it would have left room in 108 and 109 and 110 for future Irish channels (I'm sure there will be at least one more when DTT launches in Ireland, probably a RTE+ channel).

I think moving Setenta is a really stupid idea. People don't ask "What is on the Irish Channels?". They more likely wonder what is on the sports channels. Either way the addition of new channels is always welcome.

I've noticed that ITV3 has gone
it used to be on channel 114

the help menu
no.8 says 13- 184
on monday it was 13-185

so they seem to have removed ITV3
.........................................

just checked the help menu
it now reads 13-185
They must have added another channel

So if I've set some reminders to "auto tune" so they get recorded, will the stb tune to the correct channel or to the old number?

ITV3 gone? Bugger. I watch The Bill on ITV3 as I'm never home in time to catch it on UTV. Not to mention a couple of good programs too.

Losing ITV3 like that is really bugging me. I was really enjoying Due South/Hannay/Poirot/Sherlock Holmes and a few more. I really hope this is just a glitch and they bring it back.

• Closed Accounts Posts: 2,074 ✭✭✭BendiBus

And I'll have to rush home now to catch the Bill at 8pm instead of the handy midnight showing in ITV3. I'll just havt to start recording from ITV1 from now on.

And just remembered the repeats of "The Vice" are on ITV3 too.

I'm sure there's a few other things I watched on it too. Quite disappointed.

Just noticed ITV3 had disappeared too ... bugger! Just started watching repeats of Murder in Suburbia. Setanta is also still on 401 as well for some reason.

What pisses me off more than the fact that channels come and go, is that no-one at ntl: even attempts to communicate to us what changes are happening. They could easily put a flyer in with the bi-monthly bill, for example, or even send a newsletter or something warning of these changes.

Hi patrickmooney

I have posted the full line up, I think

on the Channel 6 preview, they have a list of the changes made to the line up
they say at the end of the screen
"please note ITV3 is no longer broadcast on this service"

I was speaking to a girl in NTL today about something different and mentioned the loss of ITV3 to her. She said that ITV had stopped running ITV3 completely, I told her that it was still being broadcast in the UK but only NTL have dropped it. Then she said 'oh yes that's right, it's not on our system anymore'.

She said she didn't think it woud be back but who knows, NTL staff don't seem to have a clue. The missus will go mad, she was really enjoying seeing Due South every night.

Discontinuing of ITV3 on Digital

At the same time, ITV3 is being removed from the Digital TV service.
This is a result of ITV’s recent decision to cease broadcasting ITV’s digital channels on Irish TV platforms. ntl is in ongoing discussions with ITV to relaunch ITV3 and other ITV digital channels to the ntl digital service in the future.

Still a bit pissed off about the loss of ITV3. Particularly the lack of warning which can't be blamed on an ITV decision surely?

On the Channel 6 106 preview channel at the moment it is giving details of the new channel line up. It specifically says that ITV3 has been removed.

In fairness ITV3 being removed probably isn't NTL's fault, ITV seem to have made the decision to pull all ITV channels and listings from Ireland, it would seem due to legal actions by TV3 (the bastards) against ITV.

Hopefully if ITV buy TV3, this will be sorted and all the ITV channels will return to NTL.

The missing ITV channels are a particularly large hole in NTL's line up (ITV 2, 3, 4 and CITV) and it will give people another reason to move to FTA, so I'm sure NTL will be anxious to get ITV back to plug the hole.

The cable network in Waterford is the best of the three NTL networks, with Fibre feeding the network. Yet, the waterford network has the fewest number of channels (although it has been a while since I checked last).

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 616 ✭✭✭LucyBliss

I emailed NTL last night and got this reply this morning:

Im afraid SKY has decided to remove this channel from the channel line-up, as far as im aware this is for good, it seemed to be a quite popular station, but there is no plans at the moment to bring this back unfortunately.

The channels were moved to make room for new channels that will be coming soon to the broadcast, i can appreciate in looking to be notified, but we were not aware of it ourselves, the company SKY are able to move and change channels around at there own discretion, it is always in the contract with ntl that this may occur.

Can anyone tell me what SKY have to do with NTL? I'm not being sarky here, I genuinely have no real idea of the ins and outs of how NTL gets its feed and all that. Does that mean then that people who subscribe to SKY digital don't get any of the ITV channels?

You know, I really hate being at the whim of faceless corporate monkeys like this. I realise there are worse things in the world than losing a TV channel but it was very nice to come home after a crappy day's work and settle in to watch Due South and the like and feel a bit human again. Ah well.

Most cable companies (including NTL) receive most of the channels via satellite. At the Headend, NTL will have lots of satellite dishes pulling the channel broadcasts off Sky.

However the excuse they gave you above is complete BS. All the ITV channels are available on satellite Free To Air, that means anyone with a satellite dish in Ireland can receive all the ITV channels for free, ITV no longer uses Sky carriage and you don't need a Sky sub to receive them.

Fair point. What i cant understand with itv fta why have we not it2 and itv4 on our ntl digital and itv3 as well.

Actually, all Waterford is missing is a few Radio Stations (Radio Caroline and the Dublin Locals) and the option of a sub to Zee TV (Ch 808).

Otherwise the 3 networks got the ame line up.

Blaming Sky is a red herring. This is a decision which has all the hallmarks of ITV plc about it. I notice the one remaining ITV digital channel, Men and Motors, hasn't been pulled though...

Not best pleased with the new line-up - giving Channel 6 a high slot in the entertainment category fair enough, but moving all the core UK terrestrials for it? Does this mean any time a new Irish channel launches the entertainment category will have to be totally rejigged. And Irish or not, there's precious little justificationf for giving Setanta Sports two very prominent EPG positions, #105 and #401. It simply doesn't belong in Entertainment.

Thanks for that info. And yeah, I was wondering myself about the validity of their excuse there especially as my mother called into the NTL office here in Galway to find out what was going on and while the woman behind the desk had no idea, she asked the manager who said that it was an ITV decision to pull out of the lineup.

However the excuse they gave you above is complete BS. All the ITV channels are available on satellite Free To Air, that means anyone with a satellite dish in Ireland can receive all the ITV channels for free, ITV no longer uses Sky carriage and you don't need a Sky sub to receive them.

NTL get their feeds for most of their prime channels from NTL in the UK, and not via Sat (although some minority channels are from Sat).

RTE have a fibre feed into NTL Dublin for their channels.

yes it is true about the link to the UK but in the UK arent they picked up by satellite. NTL themselves do a lot of the uplinking

Why was this channel taken off the NTL Digital lineup. I reckon it was a pretty decent channel.

according to this post it was a decision by ITV. not surprising as they had it taken off the Sky EPG also

I'm not impressed at all. I always miss the bill, now I have to have my sky box plugged in and a long scart lead accross the room( my room used to be set up the other way round and I'm too lazy to run a permenant cable accross) to my tv so I can get itv3.

Yea I will miss ITV3 as will my family, the various detective shows, like Columbo, Due South, Jeremy Brett's, Sherlock Holmes, The Monk and many others. I know they were repeats, but still good viewing.

This decision to completely pull out of Ireland was probably made by ITV, because they are currently being sued by TV3

Hopefully if ITV manage to buy TV3, this will be sorted and ITV will return.

BTW for those who really want ITV, you can receive all the ITV channels for free (no sub required) via FTA satellite, you just need to buy a FTA sat and receiver (or use an old Sky Digital sat and receiver).
