Do you think Bulletin Boards will still be used in five years?

I'm doing a report on bulletin boards and this is part of the question. I'm pretty sure it's a yes and I have my arguements. But I thought it would be a nice touch to provide a link to this thread as proof that fellow bulletin board members agree...

Yes, I think it's one of the best ways to hold discussions, and I don't really see that changing much, at least not in 5 years time.

Bulletin boards are grand and all, though it has been suggested before that they will at some stage be superceded by a similar system that used thread tagging rather than confining it to one forum. Its an interesting idea, and could lead to much better catagorisation of topics into relevant groups, and can easily see boardsies most popular tag as being something along the lines of "****e".

Boards.is will probably have a seat in the Dáil in 5 years :)

I'd say bulletin boards will have moved to another level in five years time. Whether that's an advancement or a regression I'm not sure. If they're full of txt spk and sx0rs spam it'll be a regression.

LOL, imagine that DeV/Cloud speaking on our behalf in the Dáil.

I definitely think they'll be around, again, in one form or another. It just depends. They've been around [of a form of them was] way back before bulliten boards. So I doubt it'll change unless something speedier comes along.

    Here's hoping, anyway. :)

I think that some form of message boarding will will be around in 10 years time, never mind 5 years time.

Yep, given that they're a near perfect means for a medium size group of people to interact. If they grow too large, I think they lose the community aspect and tend to implode but I can still see bulletin boards being around in 5 years. I'm sure I'll still be posting here in five years time if boards.ie is still around (though hopefully a little less than I am now!)

They have been around since 1978 so I think they will be about for a while yet.

They will just continue to evolve as they have done over the years.

Why the 5 year figure BTW?

Well I'm still posting here after five years.
I'm sure they'll be around, just slightly tweaked.

Yeah, but it'll all be in ultra-pointless 3D!!!

yes it will be used. its a good way to chat to people instead of random chat rooms.

I prefer BB to chatrooms as there is a sort of archive feel to it. Whenever I had a question, I used search and came up with posts from people in the same suitation as myself, so yeah I feel that they will be around in five years.
vB being the leader in bulletin board software, im sure there will be more advanced features, but will be all based on the same thing. A community.
