I was in the chemists today and came across a 3 Euro digital camera
apparently it can be used as a web cam as well as a still camera (it stores 19 Shots in 'HI res').
the resolution is an 'impressive' 352x288
I thought it might make a passable web cam

my linux kernel has pretty much all of the camera and video related kernel modules compiled and /proc/bus/usb/devices provides the following info on it
any idea of how I might use this device
    Bus=01 Lev=02 Prnt=03 Port=06 Cnt=02 Dev#=  8 Spd=12  MxCh= 0
    D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1
    P: Vendor=2770 ProdID=9120 Rev= 1.00
    S: Product=USB DIGITAL STILL CAMERA
    C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=500mA
    I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff Driver=(none)
    E: Ad=81(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
    E: Ad=02(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
    E: Ad=83(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 1 Ivl=3ms

the packaging describes it as Digital camera CIF 352x288 Pixels

sounds similiar to the .3 megapixel thingy that avanmore ran a promo with, could also use it as a pc cam. Utterly rubbish though, it just didn't work with the light levels that you get indoors..much too dark with just artificial lighting.

I don't expect it to be very good! However did you get Avanmore one working under linux?

gphoto should probably be able to read it, it worked fine with a similarly crappy cam I have

The only useful thing from the log is the USB ID.
2770:9120 identifies the camera pretty well.

    camletter.html
is from someone with the same camera, and his experiences.
Looks like he got pictures off it anyway, but no webcam.

I've often been tempted to buy real bargain camera stuff like that,
(and I have done!), but I guess if I hadn't I could have just saved
the money and bought a compatible camera.

That said two of the cameras I've worked on - a tiny laptop camera, and a friend's camera binoculars - both used this driver.
I'd be pretty sure your one doesn't though.

    Good luck with it,
    NiallB

Nope didn't bother, but when I mean it was bad I mean not just not very good, totally useless. You could only make out shadows and dark blobs unless it was used in full daylight.
