    Xbox handheld is in development, claims author of Xbox book

    Microsoft's J Allard is currently working on a new project to develop the company's first handheld console, according to Dean Takahashi, the author of a forthcoming book about the launch of the Xbox 360.

    I'd be very sceptical. Whatever about challenging the iPod, the biggest brand in gaming is still struggling to usurp Nintendo when it comes to the handheld market, so I'd be surprised if Microsoft figured they had a shot. Is there enough room in the market for the PSP, DS, various versions of the still-supported GBA as well as mobile phone gaming for yet another handheld? I dont think so.

    But hey, maybe they're going to write it off as a loss they'll take in order to boost the XBox360.

    I'm pretty sure they've consistently said they won't be entering the hand held market.
