Ive been offline since October, and have only just got dsl again.
I was able to play on a few servers that didnt require any update during the week
Ive downloaded the new patch 1.21 and installed it but was not able to connect to a server, so i uninstalled battlefield and gamespy twice but with no success, the game does not get any further than connecting (and i cant break out of that screen, alt tab does nothing,) when loading from gamespy, and whennot using gamespy it sometimes does not recognise any servers at all
I twas hoping to maybe get a game in with you guys on sunday but all i got was fustration.
There is a possibility that the patch 1.21 is corrupt ..
anyone have a prob with battlefield(lol ,talk about opening flood gates)

Make sure you ahve the right 1.21 patch.
Its something like 300Meg, not the incremental one which is 18Meg or so

    You need the big one

seantheman is right, if you have a fresh install of BF2 you'll need the big 300 meg patch

is it possible to uninstall BF2 do a reg cleanup and then reinstall BF2, delete the patch and download it again from EA, then install full 1.21 patch

If that doesn't work I am sure someone here had a terrible time getting it to work so i guess look back at the posts just after patch came out

s10, it sounds like a firewall issue if you can get as far as seeing the server lists but can't connect.

Oh, and you don't actually need Gamespy to play BF2 and most would say you'd be better off without it.

    It could be nearly anything:rolleyes:
    punkbuster /firewall/router
thing i did notice last night was that battlefield still had 1.1.2*****
in the top right or bottom left hand corner of the screen(depneding o what menu i was in, so looks like the patch never took.

Nope. You're confusing the patch version with the game version.

    Patch is 1.21

    Game is 1.1.2716-548.0

This problem is normally related to your firewall. Norton??
After updating the game Norton no longer recognises it and causes it to lock up.
Open firewall and remove BF2 from the allow internet access section, then add it again.
That normally does the trick ;)
