Student Travel Card - Slightly O/T

    Okay so we live in Rip Off Ireland and being young I'm obviously gonna try to get the cheapest deal possible so here's my master plan!

    I'm going to Belfast next weekend for my mates 21st and plan on getting the train. Adult ticket price is €33.00 each way, BUT student price is only €16.50 each way

    So here's my master plan, If i was to get my mate to buy the ticket a few days in advance using his student travel card would i get away with using it?

    Do they ask to see the Student Card again while boarding or during ticket inspections?

    Let us know, I'm not trying to screw money outta the country but I'm saving for a car and trying to cut corners everywhere lol

    afaik if an inspector gets on, they can ask to see your travelcard.. or a valid student card. ya can be fined if you dont have the travel
    card

    Hmmmmmmm...

    It's not quite as bad as you say though: an adult single is €33, adult return €48 (one month), student return €35 (one month). So it's only an extra €13 - which is quite a bargin!

    Out of interest how much are those student travel cards?
    <Cos i bought the Carte 12-25 in france,cost 49euro,and get half price on trains>

    Yep €12 for the card and if you're posting you'll need two passport sized photos or if you go to one of the following colleges you can get the card your photo taken for €14:

    Trinity College, Student Union Centre.
    University College Dublin, Old Students Union.
    Dublin City University, Student Union.
    Alan Hanna's Book Shop, Kevin Street, Dublin 2.
    University College Cork, UCC Travel, Students Centre.
    SAYIT Travel, 76 Grand Parade, Cork.
    University College Limerick, Students Union.
    NUI Galway, Students Union.

    If you are under 26 you can get a FairCard which gives you similar discounts to a student travelcard. Google it for more info.

    If you are over 26 you can get a weekender card which gives you good discounts as well but limits your travel times.Also google for more info.

    They always ask you for ID on the enterprise in Belfast Central, so you won't get away with it unless you come in on a connecting train (from, say, Botanic) with an adult ticket.

    But honestly, if you're that hell bent on saving money, get the bus, €15 return and theres no bar on the bus to spend all that extra money in either.
