    Hi,

I have a lappy with 40gb hard disk inside. Its getting a little full now and was considering purchasing an 80gb USB external. Am I right in thinking I should not install any programs on this drive as its if not connected when windows boots it will cause all sorts of errors? It should just be used for storage and stuff not mentioned in the registry.

    Any advice would be helpful!

    Cheers.

If they're not being loaded at startup there's no problem with installed programs on an unconnected external disk. Having said that, I'm not a big fan of programs on an external disk and I only use mine for data.

    Regards,

    Liam

Best to use it just for storage. If you shift all your stored files to the external (the ones that you don't need on-the go) you'll have more space on the internal drive for apps.
