    Cheltenham 2006 - Day 4.pdf

Congrats again to fr wishy washy on his victory. 6 winners from his 18 selections is impressive. He was even able to afford a day off.

I'm quite happy with my second place. I'd just like to thank jesus, and my mom, and that girl in spar who sustained me with breakfast rolls.

    Head-to-Head

    Chonaic (+64.25) beat Bluetonic (+17.50)
    chump (+35.00) beat clusk007 (-32.25)
Crumbs (+68.00) beat Corben Dallas (+12.25)
decies (+17.50) beat Davey Devil (-51.25)
    eirebhoy (+31.67) beat fade2black (-47.00)
fr wishy washy (+86.50) beat finnpark (-22.13)
    Hobart (-6.13) beat Healio (-56.50)
    leef23 (36.25) beat iloveireland (-6.50)
    masterK (-7.00) beat [nicK] (-41.00)
    scargill (14.75) beat Pighead (-7.00)
the jock (+24.75) beat sjones (-27.00)
    wbailey (+0.50) beat ziggy67 (-22.50)

Unlucky loser award goes to Bluetonic who was the highest-scoring head-to-head loser.

Jammy bastid award goes to masterK who was the lowest-scoring winner! :)

    Stats

As a collective group, there was an overall profit from the 24 entrants. Discounting the times when a person didn't make selections (eg. [nicK] quit after day 1), there was an overall profit of 10.5% from 545 bets, which I think is damn good.

Lastly, cheers to the others who organised it all and to the other entrants for participating. It's been emotional.

P.S. Only 361 days to go.

    well done to crumbs too.

I would like to thank everyone aswell,
Thank you crumbs for keeping scores (in a very impressive way might i say),
MasterK for going through the grulling process of chasing people for money.
Fade2black/Hobart for opening the threads for posts of competition players, and keeping them for comp entries only.
Hobart again, for being a superior opponent to me.
Fr. Wishy Washy for taking the crown, well deserved, you were consistent thoughout the week.
Lastly, anyone/everyone who took part, it was the worst cheltenham (for me) ever, but at the same time the most enjoyable, i take it that i am not alone in saying that!! Roll on 2007 and Kicking King's 2nd gold cup!

Edit: Special edit for finnpark, the comp betting thread kept me smiling through the rough times!! BTW who won the comp betting thread??

Well done lads great comp + thx to Crumbs u did a professional job running the comp, the daily speads were clear & well presented, Great job!

+nice work Fr Wishy Washy, Crumbs and Chonaic for top 3.

in the heads up well done crumbs, barring a tipping avalanche u had it won by third day. Having started well on first day thought had u beaten, but u just steaked away even pushing the top2. Story of my Chelts this year> great 1st day, nada 2nd, lil squaek/nothing 3rd, then fairly good final day.

*minor point > i have me on 15pts. the 4th race Fri 4.40
    4pm Race 4 Bothar Na E/w @ 14-1 (1/4 odds= 3.5) x1pt 3.5?
think u have 2.5 or something down on the scores spread? not important in overall shakedown of things but it might mean I would own scargill. :D:):p

** note for next years heads up, I would would like anyone other than crumbs....hes too damn good :D

The way it works is you get 3.5pts profit for the place part and minus 1pt for the win part = 2.5pts.

Thanks but I can assure you that it was a once off. I'll be back to my suckiest best next time I post some selections. :)

We all know u dont like E/w bets Crumbs :D

but dont think it works like that when u do an E/w bet? The stake is twice the cost so 1pt is for the place and 1pt of the win, if u get a place u get yur stake back (1pt) plus the odds divided by 4and if u get a win u get paid on the win and the place. Dont think that u lose yur orginal stake when yur horse places so why deduct the 1pt?

far as i know thats how it works? any real bookies out there?

Odds on Bothar Na winning are 14/1 => odds on placing are 3.5/1

    1pt e/w is two bets -> 1pt win and 1pt place.

    Bet part (i)
    1pt win @ 14/1 - loses, so return = 0pts.

    Bet part (ii)
    1pt place @ 3.5/1 - placed, so return = 4.5pts (3.5 plus your 1pt back)

    Total stake = 2pts
    Total return = 4.5pts

    Total profit = +2.5pts.

    QED.

Have some trust and faith in the excel formula! :)

just was wondering surely a NAP and a SNAP

    a NAP being *2 and a SNAP being *3

    A NAP SNAP would be *2*3* = *6

So any points scored would be multipiled by 6 for a NAP SNAP
for a NAP multiplied by 2 and SNAP by 3??

    Cool
i understand how u arrive at that score Crumbs, my point is when u place a RL bet or a winning/place bet your stake is always returned not deducted.

On a win bet, all the stake is returned, on a e/w bet the part that comes in is returned, ir u win u get the win and place part back, if u place u just get the place stake part back.

If yur basing the comp on normal betting patterns then thats how it should work? no?

In real life, your stake is deducted, the moment you place the bet! You hand over your money to the bookie and if you lose, he keeps it but if you win, he gives it back to you (with profit).
If yur basing the comp on normal betting patterns then thats how it should work? no?
It's all just two ways of looking at the same thing, Corben - "returns" or "profit/loss". If the scores were based on returns, then everyone's score in the competition would just be 60 points higher. Profit/loss is a better system as it allows you to see at a glance who's making the moolah and who isn't.
