Basically, Microsoft have signed a deal with Epic Records, who are a part of Sony BMG, to distribute their music over xbox live. First content is already up, being a Natasha Bedingfield music video.

Does anyone else find it slightly strange that Sony(albeit a small part of Sony) are contributing to what is arguably the biggest single threat to the entire company(given games and movies are what keep them afloat, and there's no single direct threat to their movie business)

Not really, business is business. It's not as if Microsoft & Sony are actually mortal enemies a la the Transformers and the Decepticons, it's the pathetic fanboys who fan the flames of rivalry that doesn't really exist.

"get your music" isnt exactally acurate? you can get music VIDEOS, thread title suggests that you can buy mp3's over xbox live, which would be pointless, as theres no way to transfer them to portable device/pc. i Dont think music videos will be all that popular tbh.

I'd imagine Sony BMG are pretty independent of Sony Playstation; they like to play up the rival status a bit but both MS and Sony will make deals based on what's good for business.

You don't see Sony MP3 walkmen refusing to work on WinXP or MS blocking the use of their OS's on VAIO machines, and MS, while currently supporting HD DVD have made it clear that they will move to (sony) Blu Ray if the market dictates it.

Sony BMG are a seperate company. I work for a part of BMG and we own the name Sony Music, i think it was bought from Sony a long time ago.
