    is this a bargain? any one got this? opinions?

    have read a few reviews seem mostly positive

    Not sure... you can get a DVD recorder from €99 in power city... its PYE which i think is rebadged Philips... Does not have HDD but can you not get one cheaper?

    The Packard Bell DVD recorder with Hard Disk is about €270 in Dixons of all places

    you'll get better prices on amazon even including delivery. the next model
    up with 160gig is just a little bit more than your argos price.

    a colleague of mine at work bought one. He swears buy it. He had a philips, and it went bust on him, so Argos allowed up add a few euro and change to the liteon. He said the menus are very easy to use on it, and he records a lot of TV on the Hard drive. I was almost tempted to buy one, based on his review.

    Watch out, I believe that those cheap brand HDD recorders are often missing some obvious features. For example, can you view a recorded program or DVD while it is recording another to the HDD? There's one for sale on www.komplett.ie but I know you have to power it off for it to start recording anything.

    I've had one for a couple of years now (a Thomson) and you can view while recording, it can control an external set-top box via an IR controller plus it downloads TV schedule information from teletext so you can view the current day's TV guide via an EPG and select which program to record.

    Buyer beware.
