...who said it couldn't/wouldn't work :D

Just downloaded the BF2 demo onto my Dell D600, installed it and played it in SP with 32 bots for a good 2 hours at a very respectable and steady 35-37 FPS (yeah, admittedly in 800x600 with everything low - but still!).

    The spec? Pentium M 725 (1.6 Centrino), 512MB RAM 2100, 32MB Ati Mobility M9

That's after the *.exe rename hack and the high-priority hack (and the AI file hack for the bots), and with latest Omega drivers.

So, gauntlet's been thrown - who's gonna attempt a lower spec now? :D

that sounds far too sore on the eye's for me, though i think hasn't syco played the bf games with it looking so blocky you can't actually make out whats going on?

Yea. Syco and his MX440 or something. Invisible tank blocks. Random big blue lines...

Cant find the link to the pictures atm. He got banned though for running a "shader hack". Although, when everything is a big sandy coloured box with blue lines across the screen and invisible tanks and stuff I cant see why it would have helped.

pftt..that's nothing..I had it running on my atari 2600..some people that don't know any better think it's Pong but it's actually my tank firing a shell at another tank...

Yeah - I've tried upgrading the D600 with the 9800XT but couldn't find the AGP slot on the mobo, and brute-forcing the card into the lappie miniPCI slot didn't work either... :D:p

I'm usually playing on my A64/9800XT desktop, but I'd been thinking about trying to run it on the lappie as well (i) for the hell of it, (ii) for 'training' in SP mode the odd 10/20 mins here and there and (iii) as a 'safe' environment in which to try mods/hacks etc. offline (without compromising/damaging my main desktop install & account details).

I'd posted in here, I think, on occasions a couple of months back to gauge people's opinion of whether it would take it/work or not, and invariably the thread always ended into which was the better GFX card to run BF2 with (considering what my lappie's got under the hood, i.e. not very much at all!), after telling me not-a-chance-in-hell.

Well, there ya go - it works, and bloody well at that! Moreover, I can now very factually state that the game minimum requirements (128MB card) stated are b@ll@cks: 32MB is more like it ;)

Sure, it's not got much eye candy (in fact none at all, but you should try the game in 800 with no details, it still very much looks and feels like BF2 anyway), but it's 35+ FPS for the spec (512RAM / 32MB card FFS!) so I'm happy - now I can also play BF2 on the move (got WiFi) when away on business: no need to splash thousands for a better/bigger/faster lappie (I've also got double battery capacity with modular bay battery : got just over 3 hours and a half playing BF2 last night, from full charge to lights off  ).

Oh an BTW - none of those gfx glitches malarkey as reported by TheSyco with his MX440. As I said, there ain't much eye candy (dynamic lights, dynamic shadows, AA etc.) BUT everything's there clear and fine as day, with visibility @ 100% no probs either. I'll try and take a digi camera pix in a bit and post.

And I'm forewarning - it'll be a pix of the game running, not a photoshop jobbie or screendump of the desktop dropped on the lappie (Scout's Honour and all that :D)

To close, and for jokers - na, I ain't confused and it's not WarRock, it is BF2.

Meh. Played BF2 for months, on a 2Ghz P4, 768MB RD-RAM (PC800), 64MB GeForce4... so low that it went under the min specs, so I needed a shader hack (BF2 needs 1.4, and the GeForce 4 only had 1.3) to play it. Along with my monitor getting random blue-outs (think black-out, 'cept they were blue), I couldn't see most of the tank, everything was brown, and my mini-map didn't exist. Oh, and thanks to the hack (which, without, I'd be unable to play BF2:mad:, even with everthing on low, or turned off), punkbuster added my cd-key to the MBL (and I appealed, but no luck).

So kids, don't use hacks, if you like playing on ranked servers.

    Pics with a GeForce 4.
