Xbox faze out...

    When will the original Xbox be fazed out do you think? The PS1 seemed to be forgotten about instantly when the PS2 came. Dunno if that was just because I got one when it was released or not.

    The PS1 was going strong for a long time after PS2 came out, it had far better games than the PS2 for quite a while.

    The xbox on the other hand doesn't have that big an install base and I can't name a single future xbox release worth getting. The xbox had a very, very short lifespan compared to other consoles but it was all about MS learning the ropes for their real push this gen. I imagine it'll drop like a stone this year.

    i'd say xbox is dead and buried. i can't think of a single important title coming to the platform anytime soon that wont have a 360 release

    Yeah, the launch list has pretty much evaporated into nothingness; with the psone (and it will probably happen again with the ps2) the scaled down models served as a great cheap alternative. In my experience families buying for young kids chose a cheap and well supported console rather than splashing out for an expensive machine that they wouldn't appreciate or potentially even use fully... it was a great little side-earner for Sony and ensured a smoother transition from generation to generation...
    MS, by failing to do similar pretty much made certain their intention to cut and run at the nearest point; selling HW is not much use to them as it still costs them money while by the end of the ps1 and ps2 lifespan they were being sold above cost and so there was a solid reason to continue from a business POV.
    I'd say the xbox 1 will be out of the picture by the time the ps3 launches, HW production will grind to a halt around the time of a price cut on the 360 in my spectator opinion/

    The production of the Xbox was officially ceased last March. I'd say it will be around for another 2 years or so and then it will retire gradually.
