    Hey,

I just noticed the "Badugi" when playing online. Is their much of a difference between Texas Holden and these games?

    Quick answer = yes!

Badugi is a lo ball game, and is very very different to hold em. Not many people play the game and imo it will not take off as an online gambling game. I know a few boardsters play it.

Best Badugi hand is A234 rainbow.

All rules can be found here

would it be worth considering learning a game like badugi inside out and then playing in the badugi tables where chances are the majority of people are not 100% sure of whats going on.... surely it would be more profitable to be a quality badugi player than a quality holdem player...?

badugi has to be one of the worst types of poker i've ever seen, i personally wouldn't consider it a poker game.

if they were thinking of adding a new game to the site why didn't they put on something interesting??

instead they put on Limit Badugi, Booooo

put on baseball with 3's and 9's wild and get your rake up!

    ps

does anyone know if there is a single online poker room out there that play's any wild card poker games?? would be interested to hear

    cheers

There aren't enough games. Almost certainly the most profitable thing you can be at the moment is a NL holdem player.

I just joined an Omaha hi/lo STT for the craic.

I saw someone saying a full house in omaha was equivalent to a two pair in holdem. Anyone care to give me some very quick pointers?!

    Ignore whoever said that.

Make sure you know what the nut low is. Play hands with A2 in them.

Try to make hands that can win the whole pot. There are some situations where you will have to fold the nut low on the flop or turn.

In what situation would you fold the nut low ? at worst you win half the pot, at best you win 50% of whatever other chips are on the table. It does hurt when two players share the nut low and your payback dwindles, or maybe 2 or more players are playing to win the low with some random high hand taking the high.

I like to play a bit of low level omaha hi/lo cash and tournies, it seems that at least 30% of players have no idea what is going on most of the time particularly in the online tournaments on Tribeca. Badugi, I can't be bothered with, played it a bit when it first came out when everyone was trying to figure out how to play it, a week later the standard of play had shot up immensely.

By the way I'm sure I got an email from VC saying that they were introducing stud this month, I have either deleted or imagined this, anyone recall such a thing ? Thought it might be the reason for the upgrade but guess not.

There are plenty of situations where folding the nut low is correct. For example, you have A2JT double suited (spades, diamonds) and the board reads 367 with two clubs in a 4-way pot. Best case scenario, no-one else has the low (v unlikely) and you win 50% of the pot, worst case scenario, 2 or even 3 other players have the nut low and some high draws (sets and club draws) or the made straight or a straight draw. Calling this down to the river is -EV in most cases.
Flopping the nut low with no high draws is one of the best ways to leak chips in this game. However I don't play much of this game so someone with better experience of this game could put what I'm trying to say in simpler terms.
Marq - I'm thinking of you here.:)

I rarely fold the nut low. Situations were it is +EV to fold the nut low are actually a lot rarer than people think.

Me too unless Party's stupid interface puts you in one when you think it's Omaha high! Took a few hands to realise too :o

I was talking about PL, and I reckon they come up quite a lot.

I 'm trying to work out a situation where you could fold the nut low post flop, I suppose if you have a multiway pot with 3+ players betting on the low and 1+ betting the high then yes it would make sense if you knew the low pot would be split more than 3 ways. . but the amount of times I've seen this actually happen is very few and one would need to be very sure of what you believe you're up against to make it a good fold.

Yeah I was thinking PL too. I can see why you would rarely fold it in limit alright.
