Taking Hits / Blows

Ok, is it a question of just conditioning yourself to take hits (hardening up) or is there much you can do about it?

I'd be considered kinda skinny (6foot1inch, 160lbs), which doesn't bother me because I can evade strikes better than some of the 'bulkier' guys I'd be sparring with.

But if you are going to get hit, lets say to the stomach (example), is it better to step out of it or just tense your stomach and then follow with your own strikes?

I know its common sense not to stay static/stanmd still when there is a chance of getting hit but what, besides what I've already stated can you do?

Also, I've been told by a few people that I should condition my forearms. What do they mean by this? (probably an unbelievably stupid question)

    Opinions ?

avoiding strikes is ok. best to get someone to bounce a medicine ball off you're stomach to condition it. after a while you won't think to tense you'll just take it. forearms can be conditioned on a heavy bag.

No sense in tiring yourself out by moving around unnecessarily if you can take the hit. As the lad above says, after a while it becomes subconscious.

do good conditioning, condition the abs, then you will be time be able to take decent punches to the mid section no problem.
