I've just downloaded Mozilla Firefox and it wont connect because the proxy settings aren't set. How can I find out what the proxy settings are to set them correctly.

    Can anyone help, cheers.

If you were using Internet Explorer before and it was working, you can copy the settings. Go to Tools, Internet Options, Connection Settings (or something like that - haven't used IE for a while). Copy the proxy address and port.

Then go to Firefox, select Tools -> Options -> Connections Settings, select manual proxy configuration and enter the details you copied into the http line.

Look in internet explorer - tools internet options connections lan etc.

If at work IE could also have be done via active directory or DNS or DHCP
FireFox seems to be better at autoconfig proxy than Opera
tools - options - general - connection settings

I've just looked in the connections settings on IE but there doesn't seem to be any proxys settings there for some reason.(and it still works). I remember putting in proxy settings ages ago when i first got my broadband but I cant seem to see them in any settings in IE.

If there are no proxy settings in IE, you shouldn't need them in FF. Proxies are normally used in companies. If you are connecing from home, there must be something else causing the problem. Did you try closing FF and restarting it? A reboot might help also.

    Other ideas:
    1. In Tools -> Options -> Connections Settings, try the first two options (Direct connection and auto-detect). Restart FF when you make the change, just in case.
    2. Do you have a firewall installed? Check if FF is allowed to connect to the Internet.
