    Hi
I bought a Dell 5110c in January from Dell outlet.1 week later when on the internet the screen powered down and cut me out. I was unable to reconnect and then realised the modem was undetectable so I rang the helpdesk in Calcutta and eventually opened the back took out the modem couldn't replace so I sent it back. It came back repaired had it for a week same thing happened again, so I did a system restore etc and still no modem, kicked up a stink got a replacement tower last week and low and behold playing cards last night and bang same thing happened again nasty message on the screen and when I restarted the computer the 'unable to establish a connection' message came up again. So I'm thinking it must be my line which is non broadband. Can anyone help before I go back to dell.

did u system actually power down and restart??
If so it's possible that you're getting electricity surges and these are blowing out the modem..
if this is the case you need to get a surge protector that supoprts the modem as well

Thanks.Yea it did. I live out in the sticks and my line is not in the best of condition so that sounds like the problem allright. Where can I get a surge protector or should I get onto eircom and get the line fixed.
