    Guys,
Ordered 9400 off Outlet store for just over 1000(incl VAT and shipping).
I didn't think there were any good prices on the Outlet store.

Also, there is 80 squid off all outlet machines until midnight tomorrow.

Ya picked up a great deal on a 9400 a couple of weeks ago. Just pay attention to what your getting.

There is a MASSIVE difference between 9400s ranging from a Core Solo 1.6Ghz with integrated graphics (pretty poor) to a Core Duo 2GHz with GeForce 7800 (sh1t hot)

I got the duo processor but the integrated graphics will suffice as I'll not be playing games on it.

How portable is the machine, wingnut? I have been close to buying one twice, but I was put off by the apparent size of the thing!

I've got one Shnaek, and beyond the fact that its a beast in performance for me, the most astonishing thing when I opened the box was the size and weight. Granted its a 17", but I was pretty impressed with the weight of the body, nowhere near as heavy as I thought.

Exactly what I thought aswell. Its not as heavy as you think it is. But one bit of advice id give to potential buyers is to upgrade the battery from the 6 cell 53Whr to the 9 cell 80Whr.
The 9 cell is a bit heavier than the 6 cell but the weight increase is negligible. It fairly sucks the power. I get mabey 1hr 40 minutes watching a dvd and about 2 hrs 10 minutes if I am browsing. Iv got the 9 cell myself (didnt include it in my signiture). So if you do the maths the 6 cell battery would have a considerably shorter life.

    nl,
Very surprised that the 9 cell battery gives only around 2hrs.
You have a lovely spec machine there, wouldn't think there was much change out of €2,500

do you think its worth upgrading to 2x1024MB ram?

What sort of condition do these Outlet machines arrive in? ...

Do they look as if they have been used? etc etc .... my impression is that they are machines that have been returned/cancelled ? ....

eveyone seems to be impressed with what they get and the prices ....

I was surprised how light it was alright. It weights as much as as a 15" and not much more than my other laptop (13" sony vaio s1xp). Condition is brand new, not a mark on it. You can get a Dell warranty (I got three years). Extended warranty is always a must with laptops because a replacement screen or mobo is the same as a new unit.

Top tip: order an XPS backpack if you want to carry it around. I put all my stuff in it (tv tuner, external HDD etc) and its still light (good straps etc). Dead chuffed with performance so far. Got the Media Center Edition with remote etc. If your worried about getting a returned one with marks you can return under the distance selling law.

By the way the sound is awesome, best of any laptop I have heard. Its got a subwoofer underneath for bass and the speakers are good enough to fill a sitting room. 6 USB ports too, which is nice

    Guys,
I've ordered one of these with integrated graphics.
Will it possible to put a gfx in to it later?

Technically possible, but really tricky, risky, expensive and warranty voiding. You'd be better off returning and rebuying

    Cheers.
Don't need it but was just wondering

more like 2800 euro!! But I got the VAT off and a good discount. So I got it for 1900 euro. Not soo bad. Its unbelievably fast and with the 2GB of 667MHz ram the responsiveness is pretty much instataneous.

But I cant get F.E.A.R to run on it. When I double click on .exe to open the game the screen just goes blank and stays blank. Its really annoying. Iv tried reinstalling 5 times with different drivers aswell. Still nothing.

By any chance have you any codec packs as I know my housemate had the same problem until he un-installed the nemo codec pack and after that it worked a treat

Nope, you take them as you get them. Hence the discount.

Glad to hear it :) It seems to be some dodge version of a codec that interferes with the one fear wants to play its intro.

There is another one of these available on the outlet store, comes with core duo and 7800.

    EUR 1,142.43 ex vat

I like it... that outlet store has some pretty good deals...

What's the beef with the outlet store though... are they units that were returned and refurbished or something?

I'm getting a new laptop soon and might see what they have lying around in the outlet store when I'm looking...

I've been keeping any eye on it as I want to replace my Vaio laptop. I keep missing good deals though. I bought a desktop from the Dell Outlet store last year, and as far as I could see it was brand new.

I bought a XPS GEN 3 Desktop last year for less than a grand with 500GB of SATA disks, GF6800, 3.6ghz P4 etc - appeared to be brand new! Never bought a lappy off it though.

Some nice laptop prices alright...although someone somewhere slipped up on this (see attachment...)
