I am going to be buying a bike in the next six months. I am driving a 49cc 2004 Peugeot Ludix at the moment.I have a provisional licence now.Ok, here are the most important aspects of a bike which i want to buy

    Style: Cruiser
    Money: 2000 euros
    Insurance: Cheap as possible

Things i value: Comfort, safety, reliability
Things i dont value: Speed, Brash colours, noise

So there you go. Any suggestions would be most welcome. If anyone needs more detail, just say so.

If I were you and you had a mate with a full A licence I'd start looking on eBay UK for a 1991/2 Yamaha Virago 250cc (or maybe even a shaft driven 535cc as I believe they are right on the 33bhp limit for your provisional). If you get a 1991/2 it'll qualifu for classic insurance as soon as you pass your test (with Carole Nash anyway). I don't think you'll find a Virago of tha vintage here as I don't think they were imported at the time and UK bikes are usually a lot cleaner anyway as insurance is so cheap they can afford 'weekend bikes' a lot more.

If you are stuck getting a bike here then you might find a more modern Virago 250 for your budget, but the bike won't qualify for classic insurance upon passing your test unless it's 15 years old.

CN much prefer older bikes too. When I was lookin for a bike I rang them and AON loads of times getting quotes. The Virago quote for a 2003 was double the price of a 1992 even though I only wanted TP cover!!

The problem with a 125 is that if you do your test on it you'll only get an A1 licence, the 250 would get you an A licence upon pasing your test on it. I believe the 125 is also ridiculously slow as it's a heavy bike (I know speed isn't your thing but you'll want some poke).

It's very hard to beat the reliability of a Honda. I don't know if they have the "Rebel" over there but for a small cc bike it has great cruiser styling and the legendary Honda reliability.

I checked out some local ads and it appears that Honda Rebels are available in Ireland. Have fun and be safe!

Whatever u do dont buy a virago 125 or 250!!!
They aint designed for this country
They hate the rain and constantly break down in wet weather!
I no from experience with a m8s bike.

My advice is if u can get a Dragstar 250cc get it, ull be sorted dunno how much u'll pay, but they aint cheap but they keep there value and are easy to sell on.:)
there the best cruiser for 250cc class.
    good luck

I had a vargo for 10 months and a Dragstar 250 for 2 years. I can honestly say the Dragstar 250 is the way to go. So easy to drive. nice and easy to maintain. But best of all, the 250 never once gave me a problem. Hell it would even cold start with out the choke on most days. (which meant you saved fuel). I can highly recomend this bike... if you can find one in your buget.
