    And i loved it.
Pity i was so crap. Texas holdem with chips. i lost a tenner in the end but it was a great night.
We're playing again soon but what my friends dont know is i love maths. Its the only thing im good at. I could hardly sign my name in school but maths, applied maths etc were a doddle for some wierd reason. Stats/probability especially was easy. Even fun...
Im sifting thru everything i can see on the net and in that great sticky above.
Thanks for your unknowing help and wish me luck...

I was just wondering i've gone thru a few site's and what id love is a place that has loads and loads of worked out examples of pot odds so i can practice them. i want to have it on the tip of my tongue as soon as thr flop is turned.
    any link?

    Thanks again

    Welcome.

The Poker Guide sticky at the top of the board may have some of what you're looking for.

    Welcome to poker !!!

Theres a decent calculator on http://www.thehendonmob.com. You can enter various hands and see what percentage of the time they can expect to win.
Its handy to know where a pair stands against overcards, etc. You can also enter your own flop, so you can see for example how well TopPairTopKicker can expect to do againt a nutflush draw etc.
    Hope that helps.

not pot odds but good for calculating the chance of hitting a certain hand

    http://www.texasholdempoker-stats.com/thp_preflop.html

generally speaking if the flop is down multiply the number of outs you have by 4 and then by 2 after the turn card.

for pot odds it's simply a calculation of what you have to put in the pot against what you can possibly win, if the chance of you hitting your card is higher than that then you should play.

You then have implied odds to factor in as well as a few other things. I recommend reading The Theory of Poker by Sklansky, that has all the math you'll need.

theres also twodimes.net and a program called poker stove (just google pokerstove and download). poker stove is great because you can enter a range of hands for up to ten players and then let it work out the percentages.

    thanks.
well i've done no work at all today and i've polished off a nice and easy little algorithm (well it makes sense to me anyway) for remembering percentage's.
all i need to do now is apply it...
Im prob still gonna lose for ages yet but the wheels are in motion...

there are basic concepts that you must learn in order to use the stats you are learning to your advantage. also the game isn't based purely on maths and it is just as important to learn those concepts too.
