    Folks,
For some reason, I've lost my sound when I try to play RealPlayer and every web-based videos. The sound is fine for iTunes and the OS sounds.
Can anybody think what the problem could be?

    Intel iMac, 10.4.5.

    Cheers,
    S.

Trash realplayer and its preferences and then reinstall.

Already tried that. But it's happening to WMAs online too...

make a new user account, try the web pages in there, and if they're faulty, then it's the page, not you. Otherwise I have no idea. What's a "WMAs online"?

Aren't online WMAs Windows Media Player files?

Yeah, media player wouldn't play them either. I got it fixed just there though by repairing the file permissions by Disk Utility :)

open Audio MIDI Setup and make sure the audio output set to 44100.0 hz. see the attached for example for default settings. Application like Audacity changes these settings and you'll loose sound in real player. happened to me before.

    Just read this on Usenet...
Safari can't use Realplayer plugin on Intel. Firefox can. No BBC Radio!

    Maybe try Firefox?

and also in the same thread...

Are you referring to the PPC version of Firefox?

    (Unofficial Intel build here: http://wiki.mozilla.org/Mac:Intel)

And the Realplayer plugin is still the PPC version?

Safari will run the PPC plugin if opened under Rosetta.

    [ Paragraph 2 below ]

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303120

As you can see, the problems seem to arise when a PPC plugin is used with the
Intel part of a universal binary. If the Intel version of Firefox works with
the PPC Realplayer plugin, I'd be interested to hear about it.

    Thanks,

    R.

I'm relatively new to OS X. When I say relatively, I mean, I was using Windows since 95, so know that inside out, I work in computers, so learning more every day.
I've used OS X in everyday work, but I'm only starting to learn the ins and outs of the OS X now :)
