It's on trial in Limerick at the moment, isn't it?
Not living in Limerick I haven't tried it. Actually, even if I was I don't know if I'd be bothered to try it.

Don't know if it is , I'm 12 miles outside Limerick...(heck , last time I was in a pub would be Christmas at this stage  ).....

would'nt mind seeing what it's like... Not being much of a drinker these days I find 3 pints I' off my head, would be nice to prolong the agony a bit :)

Just got an email from my friend in London extolling the virtues of Kronenbourg 1664 EXTRA COLD... .mmm now that may be worth getting off me head for.. .:D

    Fatboy..

This mid range thing is a bit of a joke if you ask me, it's not mid range really its low, this reminds me of the beer you can buy in supermarkets in Sweden 2.8 and 3.5 neither worth buying once you can get real beer from a Systembolaget (Government offie) which is usually 5.2 or 7.2. A six pack of 2.8 Dansken cost less than €2 and it's impossible to get even slightly drunk on it.
I might try a pint of this stuff but only if its about 99c to €1.50 which I think is unlikely.
I passed a poster advertising it on my way into Limerick today so I'd say the trial has started.
My favourite quote on this is from the Examiner website article:
"The brewers’ spokesperson said they were not quite sure what Diageo were up to in launching a half strength stout"

The trial started last week, it's available in most pubs in Limerick City afaik. I haven't tried it myself but I've spoken to people who have tried it and who drink Guinness regularly. The general consensus is that people can taste very little or no difference from full strength Guinness. Time will tell what appeal it will have. The only benefit I see is that people will be able to last longer without getting drunk. It's on sale at exactly the same price as regular Guinness, no discount whatsoever.

That is ridiculous. The taxs on alcohol are directly related to their %, and as the tax makes up a huge amount of the cost it should be far cheaper. The tax should be halved leaving the price of brewing and pubs profit about the same, (even thought it is cheaper to brew and the pub will sell more per customer.)

I like those very weak beers, it is true you wont get drunk on them, but they allow you to "coast" along. i.e. get a 4 real guinness/lager down you and then just drink this stuff. You are able to process about 1 pint per hour. So once your alcohol level is at the desired level, 1 pint per hour should keep it there. Problem is as time goes on I can down pints faster and faster so am on about 3 per hour.

Reminds me of that Foster Light slogan "Now you can drink and drive" (this a long time ago)

Smirnoff Pink, only half the calories of smirnoff red, at just 20% but the same price.

-"might have a try of that new smirnoff pink, better make it a double"
