im in pub tourney tonight, 8k starting chips, 10 runners, 1 runner to my right has majority of chips with 5 to go, blinds are 1-2k, i have about 13k on big blind, its folded around to the button who is on about 10k raises to 4k twice the big blind, small blind folds, i look down and see jack queen so as it is only two more i call, flop comes 9, J, Q and its on me to act, i now have two pair and put him on small pair as he always makes a small raise with low pockets and usually follows them to the river so i decide with 9k in the pot and me with 9k left it was an all in, so I do it, he takes ages thinking about it but eventually calls and turns up 8, 10 hearts, nothing comes with my two pair and i am left with 3k which i go all in with next hand and was out. I keep thinking he must have cheated when i wasnt looking when all in after flop otherwise why take so long to call and why raise with that crap, anyway your intuition would be greatly appreciated:mad:

firstly "why raise with that crap"? - to get some of those monster blinds that are about to eat you up.
why take ages to call? - slowrolling maybe which means he's just a c**t
or he's a dumbass who can't read his hand right
or maybe he fears you on KT, a bit strange seeing as its an easy all in what with the hgh blinds.
doubt he cheated but i hope you shook him by the ankles anyway for beating your 2 pair - the cheek of him;)

He's a slow rolling mutha f**ker and that's all there is to say anthony. Your question shouldn't be why did he raise with that crap it should be why did he min raise with that crap. Plus I don't like your push all-in here in a pub game, you should check raise all-in to try and get action from hands you beat in the long run. You're letting some guy with TT or AJ maybe get away because they are a pussy and don't like calling all-in but they might push in.

Next time push all-in on him preflop and cut that sh1te out one way or the other.

did the blinds go up every hand ro something ridiculous like that. how long had you been playing when this hand came up?

He should be punched in the face for slow-rolling. Bastard. Slow-rolling is only acceptable in Chinese Poker.

On the cheating thing years ago in college I knew a guy who could very successfully deal of the bottom of the pack you know the kind of thing that was done in the sting he'd deal me 4 kings and himself 4 aces and he was very good at it. So you know these Celtic poker tours or any games where there are no dealers could it be easy for someone to deal of the bottom of the deck?

CUT THE DECK ,CUT THE DECK!

Any decent players will always insist on this being done in a self-deal game. Always be on the look out anyway and make sure the dealer cutting EVERY hand.

I was dealing in the Fitz €30 yesterday, I forgot to offer the deck for cutting all day, not one person passed remark on this. I have seen players doing some pretty spectacular things with a deck of cards and if I had not known they were doing a trick, it would have went unobserved as he was very subtle. Now I don't think that every player out there can do this, but there are a few, and they are very hard to spot.

Generally when there is one dealer in a self deal game, the dealer will transparantly cut the cards himself. If he offered them to be cut every time he should get a slap. If you didn't transparantly cut the cards yourself after the shuffle, then start doing it.

Anytime i have dealt in the Fitz i havent bothered to offer the deck to be cut. If someone asks me, I will chop there head off!

Which is why it is in everyone's best interests to be extra vigilant in a self-dealt game. I'll usually offer my services to deal if no-one else will, and I will always try to remember to cut the deck every time. You have to make the effort to be as professional as possible.

When I am not dealing I will always have a close eye on the dealer, its just a habit I got into. More to ensure that cards are burnt correctly etc, than to catch cheating.

I know there are people out there that can do some amazing things with a deck of cards, but I have never caught anyone actually using this in a game. And I've never heard anyone come on here posting about a cheater. At least thats a good sign, that if it does happen it is very rare. As far as I can tell, cutting the deck onto a cut card basically takes out any element of cheating.

I absolutely agree that you should get the deck cut. If I offer to deal on a table, lets say and I win next 3 hands in a row, there will be eyebrows raised. I always get the the person to the left of the button to cut. Now if there is a table where everyone at the table gets a chance to deal i still feel that it should be cut every time. Some places it is obligatory to cut, it makes it much easier for everyone.

    Hi Antony123,

Your the first player to mention the possibility of cheating in a long time.Anyway one big ? was he dealing. If the tournaments don't have good dealers they will never be successfull.Any good mechanic can clean up with a partner.Something has to be done to avoid that developing.

Colette you should definitely change this, offer it to the person to your right to cut. The reason for this is that the person to your left gets the top card off the deck, so he has a much bigger incentive to cheat.

And I have never seen anyone who could wash the cards, riffle, strip, riffle, riffle, cut one handed and have the deck "stacked". I've seen quite a few players who can manipulate the deck incredibly well, but no one that good. Make sure there is a cut card used if you are really worried about bottom dealing -- the other advantage of this is that the dealer can't flash someone the bottom card.

Exactly, I wouldn't get too paranoid about it. Once you ensure that the dack is properly shuffled and cut onto a cut card, there shouldn't be a problem.
