Just question for any of the Cimande Silat guys on this forum....lately all this forum has been filled with is pieces referring to MMA vs TMA...and i saw Liam getting a pretty rough goin over as to his views regarding effective self defence etc, but i was just wondering if there are any clips of silat sparring either full contact or just some PRACTICAL applications?
Iv been on the www.cimandecombat.com site and they have some video clips but was just wondering are these examples of sparring or something else? Before anyone thinks i have alterior motives here I DONT just curious as to the effectiveness of some of the techniques (including Mr Sanders kicking) i know this is primarily a bladed art, but as for empty handed fighting i cant see how these would work?

    Hi Seraph

I think the clips you are talking about are actually more to do, with what is term in silat training as playing, than actually sparring. Its a form of training along the path of developing the sparring training.

We currently dont have any video clips on our website of sparring, but it something which we will look into putting on it shortly.

To answer your questions about the kicks. I havn't watch all the clips, so I'm not sure which kicks you saw, but cimande is primary a weapon based system, so the kicking techniques are tailor around this. Its not one system for empty hands and another for weapons. I truely believe if you seperate and were training just for empty hands, and maybe just against singular attackers then, they are better ways of developing punches and kicks and probely better martial system out there. Silat in its very nature try's to be a complete art. I have been on the receiving end of some of Sanders kicks and they dont lack power nor pain. As I mention before the delivery system of Silat is very unique and different.

Saying all this each student who joins a class brings something to the table, and Cimande blends itself around each student. So you could look around a class and see a Thai Boxer student training and see him training and maybe a wrestler training. Each of them come from a different back ground and what they see, and what they experience in Cimande will be different and how they react to it. Each of them will have a thread of movement that links all Cimande students, but each student must travel his own path to develop himself to the best of his abilities. So in conclussion different students kick in different ways, it all depends on the student, and what he feel comfortable with and how the art is exposed in his movments.

    Hope this helps.
