i know ive read those threads but are you sure thats not the england Download

Only Korn are fully confirmed atm. Alice in Chains are down on Jerry Cantrell's website to support so they're a strong possibility.

Then I'd say there'll be one more band at most.

I think that would be brilliant, Prodigy fans seeing Metallica, they'd phucking love it & a lot of them might never have even previously heard sandman.

Theres definitely more than 3 bands on the bill this time.....if I were a betting man I'd say around 7 for the Metallica gig and 4/5 for the G'n'R one.....but I don't think all will be confirmed for weeks yet, the Download organisers are only releasing confirmations once a week and they made a balls of this weeks one and had next weeks bands on it so they retracted it and no new bands will be confirmed for there for two weeks with the same bands from last week revealed properly this Tue/Wed..........So far only around 25 bands have been confirmed for there so there's loads of bigger names to come, hopefully we'll get some.....
I don't think Aiken would bother setting up a seperate website for it unless they had bigger plans than two three band gigs...
    http://www.downloadfestival.ie

If you want to keep up with what's happening, check out the downloadfestival.co.uk (or the .ie one when they are up and running) site for confirmations there and there's a chance any bands on the same day as Metallica there will be here too and vice versa for G'n'R, but I'd say it's only the mainstage bands...

Download in Donnington has 100 bands over the three days, so yes I'm sure it's not that event people are talking about..........this is a better attempt than Aiken have made before at staging one of these festivals, and if all goes well next year I'd see it being bigger again.......

As for the Prodigy, they play a lot of Rock/Metal fests these days........it'll really depend on what day they are on in Donnington really.....I'm still under the impression that Motley Crue will be reconfirmed for the G'n'R show, there's debate it's being held back until they are confirmed for the Rolling Stones euro tour support (August)....we'll see....

That download link says "RDS Dublin 9th-11th June". Is there a band on the 10th? I know bout the Tool rumours and they are headlining the Friday in Donnington. AS for this 7 bands at Metallica, cool! Can somebody please tell me what is this bout Trivium playin? Are they or is that rumours? And if BFMV play, it'll rock all the loads more

As far as I know there's nothing on the 10th, and if there was it would need planning permission as we still have that stupid law for three large events in a row thing (unless that has changed)......

Trivium have self confirmed for the Metallica bill, and apparently they were telling people about it after the gigs last week, will probably be third on the bill - which isn't right as Alice in Chains should be higher......anyway I'd be pretty sure on Trivium playing, when the offical announcements will come is anybody's guess, Aiken as promoters have never been too good with info, for example setting up a site that just has a front page and no info isn't a good start - but the Uk site isn't much better....

http://www.jerrycantrell.com/tour.asp has changed and Dublin is no longer on the list. ****.

They're still playing, they just can't have it listed atm for some reason.

Fυckin hell, when did Alice in chains get back together??? Is Jerry cantrell front man now? Anyway this is lining up to be a seriously fυckin good gig!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,656 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Meh to Trivium, i want BFMV! And AIC! Now im confused bout them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,550 ✭✭✭NIBBS

this is just all promotional bull**** for the Download festival, UK and the Irish one too......they are making a ballis of announcing bands and are getting bands to take the confirmations off the sites until they've decided they can confirm them in their stupid weekly/fortnightly announcement schedule - this is why Crue will more than likely still be playing on the GnR bill but can't be confirmed yet....

Cantrell sings the parts he always did and the singer from his band is doing the other vocals......should be good

Phil Anselmo and that guy Duvall were on vocals for A.I.C. the other night for some tribute gig.

It would be cool if it was Anselmo

According to Blabbermouth BFMV and Avenge Sevenfold are playing With Guns on the 20th of June in Paris, wonder if they will support them at their other gigs which would mean playing with Guns at the Friday night show in the RDS and not with Metallica on the Sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,550 ✭✭✭NIBBS

toss a coin on that one......

They are supporting Metallica in Holland on June 8th, so it's possible they'll play here on the 9th and then back to Donnington for Download there on the 10th to play with Metallica or the 11th to play with GnR........

I wish they'd just announce the poxy bands to play and stop faffing around......it's a pain in the arse

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,656 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

It says on Triviums website that A7x, BFMV, Trivium are the opening acts for Metallica gigs. Think thats the Holland one. They better be playin with Metallica and not "GNR".

I'd prefer if they weren't playing at all, trivium are a very bland band.

ah if i cud pick a band it wud deffo be the Prodigy!.. there amazing... seen them live... unreal... wud go great with metallica!.. :P

One thing crossed my mind. Dublin wont have all those bands playin cos it would represent value for money. that cant happen. so we shall be stuck with three bands while everywhere has 6 or 7 to enjoy.

P.S. I also think Trivium are quite bland but still could be good enough

Yeah, it would set a standard for Aiken for future gigs of course; they'd have to book a six or seven support acts while in the past it only meant having to book two or three.

My understanding was that, with the gates opening at 3pm and the first band on at 4/5pm, there'd be no way they'd be able to fit more than three or four bands.

I think Korn and Alice in Chains alone are satisfactory tbh. Korn would demand more stage time than any of the bands supporting Metallica in the Netherlands, hence the notion of why we would have less bands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,550 ✭✭✭NIBBS

I know what you are saying, but starting at 4 they could easily fit 6 bands in.......but as we know from past experience, it would be unlike Aiken to give vfm.......but they you have to look at the event as a whole........
we are getting (at an optimistic estimate) 10 bands 4 on the GnR bill and 6 on the Metallica one for 140 yoyo's where the event in Donnington will have 100 bands over the three days for around 170 yoyo's, not much there for the value for money.....

hopefully it goes well and gets expanded next year....

If you're planning on going to both gigs for €65 a pop, you might aswell head over to the UK for the real deal. Both Dublin and Shannon have inexpensive services to East Midlands through Ryanair, and the venue is apperantly right beside the airport. No brainer really.

it's €210 for a camping ticket to download.

you're better off going to Nova Rock (http://www.novarock.at)
I'm heading over with a few others and it's costing us €200 for full tickets and travel
