Newbie - Blank Screen - Sky box - No remote

Hello all, i have just left cable land in the big smoke and have just moved into a cottage in the wilds of wicklow. Rabbit ears get me absolutely nada. Not even decent snow. There is an old dish on the roof, there is a sky box (grundig) with card(presumably expired), no remote. Have tried to set up box etc..

    Question.

    1. Once box is plugged in,hooked up and turned on, should red light turn green, (cause no matter what buttons are pressed, she stays red), and the screen on tv is black(av1).

Is there a way of checking the box without a remote, or does it sound like its dead?

Is there a faq someone can refer me to, as i'm sure this is the basic of basics for seasoned punters.

    Ta.

    see http://icdg.bytelive.com/

Yes the light should go green, but only if you press "on" after waiting a moment or two.

The box can be controlled from the front panel. The remote is not needed except to type in channel numbers. The Guide or Ch up/down will work instead of numbers.

Plug in. Wait 3 minutes. Press

    (|) power button

If light does not go green (may not react at once) then box might be faulty.

You can try a power on reload:
    Unplug nains
hold backup button while reconnecting mains
Keep holding backup button till all four lights come on. Then let go.
Wait till all lights go out and only one red light. Then try (|) Power button again

If they don't then the Power supply is faulty, which is common on some grundig boxes especially if they did not get good cooling due to in a tight shelf or hifi cupboard.

It is a DIGITAL Sky Digibox by Grundig?

A cancelled card will add Sky3 to all the free channels, which include BBC/ITV but not RTE/TV3/TG4.

A FTA box from about 80 to 120 Euro (more expensive ones have an RF out, cheaper ones only SCART) will work on the dish for all the free channels. Or you can get a minimum 2 mix pack sub from Sky with new box, and cancel later (you own the box).
