You need Java installed on your browser.

I find this site is much better btw: http://www.hookhead.com/Tools/tax2006.jsp

    Hi,

I just noticed this thread and I thought I should follow up with some facts about the calculator on Hook Head:

The Hook Head calculator gives a monthly breakdown as well as a yearly breakdown. Most of the other calculators give simply a yearly breakdown.

It takes pay increases into account where relevant.

Most of the calculators out there work out the PRSI liability for the year and then divide this by 12 and apply this figure to each month equally. This is incorrect and does not handle the PRSI ceiling properly. Once you hit your PRSI ceiling you, should only be liable for Health Insurance only (2%), and as a result the amount due every month until the end of the year is reduced. If you check the calculator (http://www.hookhead.com/Tools/tax2006.jsp) with the default settings you can see the PRSI ceiling is hit in November (marked in red) and there is no PRSI liability whatsover in December. Obviously the more you earn the quicker you will hit your PRSI ceiling.

i really like the hook head one too.

another handy one is on the ernst & young budget site:
    http://www.ey.com/global/content.nsf/Ireland/tax_budget06_calculator

    it does weekly/monthly/annual figures.

The default uses a 10% pension value, which may account for your 400 discrepancy.
