things to do in kilkenny when your alive

Hi, Im going to kilkenny for a stags weekend in April. Im wondering is there anything to do to stop me going to the pub too early and knackering myself?Ive check the gg's and they are not on. Also, whats the low down on the kilkenny pubs these days? Stephen.

The best thing to do in Kilkenny is to get on the train to Waterford and visit a real city not a jumped up little town

Well, it actually qualifies as a city due to population rather than dispensation from a government that doens't actually govern the place in question any more.

Morrissons on a friday night its a basement bar in the hibernian hotel on ormonde street.Dj is great:rolleyes: doesnt get busy till 11ish....Kilkenny was such a kicking city before the smoking ban came in i think....

The reason it's a city is because it has a cathedral.
Wexford and Carlow have larger populations and regarded as towns.

As for pubs try the Kilford Arms. Lovely place.

Kilkenny has two Cathedrals in fact...but the fact a town/city/village has a cathedral does not qualify it as a city.

For example, Cobh has a Cathedral but is not a city.

Lets not start the Kilkenny city/town debate. Its one of the nicest places in Ireland and great for a night out. Avoid the Kilford though.

Does every Kilkenny thread have to descend into a city/town debate. This has being discuss to death more times than I care to count and we never agree. It's recognised as a city. Can we leave it at that? *edit* Yeah, avoid the Kilford

No it's because they petitioned the queen of England or something, not sure of the specifics. They got royal dispensation anyway. The other cities in Ireland are cities due to population.

well it seems that the only thing to do in Kilkenny is to go out on the piss, the place for you is probably Paris Texas, Morrissons, Lanigans. All very popular with stags and hens and not a kilkenny person in sight!

There's plenty of tourist stuff to do in Kilkenny... it is a tourist hot spot, and a medieval City. There's a castle, a sweet town hall loads of that sort of stuff.

whatever happened to the bagpipes festival? that was a nightmare. People were practically camping in my driveway at that.

That only comes to Kilkenny every once in a while. Its at a different venue every year.

Anyone remember when the hot air balloons (about 20 of them) used to land/take-off from the castle park? They were around for about a week.
