Anybody looking for anime reasonably priced but not looking to order from abroad, HMV in Henry Street has another batch in.

    Usual suspects:

Macross Plus, AD Police, Ghost in the Shell: STC (six eps), Nija Scroll, Akira €11.99
    Spirited Away: €8.99
    Appleseed: €17.99
    Lots more than this upstairs.

Not exactly fantastic, but decent enough to swell out anime collections.

I have a feeling I've bumped into half of you lot in Tower on Wicklow Street.

Like me, silently perusing the anime section, trying not to be too aware of the porn section directly behind you lest you garner some shocked looks from mothers and children no doubt watching your every move.

It's a shame the prices are so shockingly high. For 30 quid a pop, those DVDs would want to be made of solid gold for me to buy them. Play.com anime boxsets are the only way to fly ;) (or amazon.com, if you have an R1-capable player).

No, if I'm going to buy anime the money is going to go to the people who made it, not bootlegging scumbags.

    Hear hear!

    I hate pirates.
Not just because I am a part-time ninja, but also 'cos they fund illegal crime etc.
If I was a full-time ninja, I'd be over there like a shadow.

    ...must pass ninja exams so...

Is that meant to impress people? 500Gb of downloaded anime? Is that some kind of serious achievement?

Some of us around here care about the creators, at least enough to not brag about how much we have stolen from them.

Yes I am pretty sure we have bumped into each other more than once. I even bumped into a Boards member in Fibbers last Saturday, the first question he asked me was "Are you on Boards.ie" which I think should be the greeting if you see someone browsing the Anime section. Ya never know who you'll meet

the odds are good on that bet, i have seen 1 or 2 Eirtaku floating about, though myself i've taken a holiday from my annual visits (being poor sucks), was in there the other day though, i see they've moved our section into the opposite dark corner. Quick remedy, everybody run out and get a t-shirt printed with your avatar for your next visit to Tower.

Hmm...seems to be mixed messages here in previous comments.:confused:

So do people here support fansubs? I would have thought it was a vital way for spreading quality, non-licenced anime - and therefore see nothing wrong with a brag about amount of downloaded anime. Is that a minority view here? Would have thought most people these days sampled anime like this.

Yarrrr! There be much merit in them thar an-neee-mhay fansubs... Oh my God!...I might be a pirate...

Oh lord no, I'd be a hypocrite to say that I was against fansubbing, it's downright necessary, but I try to buy the stuff I like, I'm just not going to buy it from bootleggers.

Fansubbers do their work for free, they distribute it simply to get anime out there. Bootleggers are slime trying to make quick money off the efforts of others.

To further distinguish CuLT from the rest of the attendies at Eirtakon let it be said that CuLT and Art_Wolf got the Uber Cool Red T-shirts, as far as i remember anyway.

So another words you've downloaded just as much lol - over half the stuff i watch i havnt seen available on dvd anyway and the odd time it is its like 20-30euro for 4eps of whatever series

I was bugged out by psicic's statement for two reasons: the wholehearted Jolly Roger, anime for free aspect about it, as well as flaunting the collection in front of a very impoverished community.

Its probably the second point that ticked me off more. Especially when much of the community's access to anime is barrel scraping whatever is available at retail.

Umm... okay... I asked a question, didn't make a statement... and as for anime for free - well I started this thread because anime was on sale - not free - in HMV. I can't actually reconcile what I said anywhere on this thread with what you've posted. Maybe you've confused me with vex?

For the record, I think fansubs of anime that is not licenced (or licenced but no longer under active release) in a jurisdiction is perfectly acceptable. I do not agree with licenced anime being made available - not because I think copyright infrigement is stealing, not because I care that those horrible English and American distribution companies might lose profit, but because the community relies on quality Anime being produced, and the incentive for that is sales. More sales = more anime.

Or parhaps 'twere me pye-rate impression that annoyed ye...yarrr! Well, it mayn't be Intarnational Talk like a pyerate day...but that won't be stopping me.... yarrr!:D

hey im all for fansubs, and when it does get licensed i wait for to become available on the anime pay sites and then i get them that way ( wonder who profits of thouse must look in to that). i normally buy proper boxsets from proper anime shops, the only time i buy from bootleggers(and im not to happy that i have had to resort to using them btw) is when i cant find the box set any where or when they release a box set in volumes and each folume is 30 euro onwards for 4 epps and some boxsets can span up to like 7 - 15 volumes ect.:( and to atome for my sin of buying from bootleggers i share the fake anime (as u can call it) so others wont have to buy it from thouse scumbags (as cult calls em:cool: )

I download fansubs off the internet. I dont mind admitting it since I'm from limerick and only have a few movies in HMV which are overpriced and usually dubed without the original voiceover and subs etc.

I dont have a huge collection but what I do have is all series since, like others were sasying, you can only seem to buy them in volumes with only 4 eps and have to pay around €40 for them too!

lol - you guys are nutz. If your into anime, like as in a series, your not given much other choice but to download it! How else am i goin to see the latest ep of bleach or naruto for example!!!

If it even was available on dvd ive like about 150eps of naruto at home at the moment, have you any idea how much that would cost!!!

-at least 750e  ...man thats a lot lol
