drifting bug?

Hi, I've been playing BF2 for a few days and one thing that really pisses me off is that sometimes my guy will just drift in one direction when i let go of the keys as if i've got a direction key pressed down. It happens in all directions so it's not my keyboard. I've got a decent machine and the 1.2 patch but this bug makes the game almost unplayable. The drifting effect usually goes away after a little while but sometimes it's still there even after i respawn. Anyone know how to help?

Dont let your guy drink before you play? I've heard of this before, but not a fix..

    Brilliant !!!

I thought it was my machine or internet connection ... the pings on IBB can be a disaster.

The amount of times that I leg it up to a corner in order to missile a tank, only to end up drifting out into the middle of the street with the tank guy wondering 'what's this fool up to, ah well, I'll machine gun him anyway' means that my stats are _really_ bad now :)

Glad to hear that it's the game ... hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

It is usually down to lag/crap wireless keyboard! is your keyboard wireless?

Hide in a corner when it happens.

Yeah a corner with 4 walls, that should keep you from drifting.

    You mean a room?

For those of you not familiar with what we're talking about, it could be best described as two large corners placed together.

I usually get that from pressing scroll-lock and X in game to pull up Xfire...

It's an ordinary regular wirey keyboard. I've had no problems with any other game, my broadband is 3MB eircom and it happens even on very low ping games.

It has to be in the game or some compatibility issues.
I have a geforce fx 5700 card with 256mb ram, and amd 64 3400+ processor with 1 gig of ram

does a 4 walled room not require 4 corners? or you could go with a circular room, that'd have none...

Does your mouse stop working too?
This happened to me when I first got the game. Every few minutes the game would stop accepting any input and I would just "drift" in whichever direction button I had pressed at the time. Got very annoying when walking on roofs and when you just saw an enemy. Also the sound was a bit messed up. Turns out it was caused by a program called total recorder. When I uninstalled that the game worked perfectly.

no my mouse and everything else still works, including the direction buttons, for example, if it's drifting left, i can press the right direction button to stop if from drifting and but that means i can't go right, as if the button is stuck down but it's not.

Sounds like a keyboard issue. Can you try a different keyboard at all?

I wouldn't go into that 'room' if i were you. I put a claymore in the doorway.

The same thing happens to me every now and again. The way I got it to stop was to tap the offending key again.

Say, for example, that the problem was that I was strafing to the right. To remedy this I tap the right strafe key. Problem solved - well not really but its a temp fix at least

I think I'll just go outside and shoot some real people instead. It's such a nice day today.. Plus i'm ****e at the game anyway unless I have a really good squad leader to watch my back

Man ya just have to give it time, you'll learn the maps and once you have the drifting bug thingy fixed you'll improve. Keep lookin in here aswell cos you'll pick up some great tips and tutoring from the guys on here.

Of course some have more patience and tolerance towards noobs (me being a noob also) than others. Keep at it, what i like about this game is that every night something different happens. Last night I was trying the c4 on the jeep technique tonight i might try something else a bit of tank driving maybe who knows, greta value for money.

No no no. If you take two large corners and put them together, where they join will create the third and fourth corners, so while you only begin with two, you have the full four by the end :D

If you are moving and press one of the keys(j, k, l) to type a message you will keep moving in the same direction and at the same speed. Not a bug but intential. Maybe this is whats happening to you....

it could be your fire wall, had the drifting problem like this when i forgot to turn zone alarm off, with it off it was fine though.

Ah! that could be it!. I disable it before i play but sometimes it stays running for some reason. I'll have to do it manually next time. thanks!

I have a drifting problem but I know it's being caused by my gamepad. I have a PS2 dualshock plugged into my PC using one of them GAME usb converters. If the little joystick on the pad is not dead centre I tend to drift a bit. It's really hard to balance it actually.

Do you have a gamepad or joystick plugged in?
