Comreg blatantly ignores lobby group comments

Currently Comreg appear to be engaging in an exercise to disregard anything Ireland Offline the largest broadband consumer lobby group in Ireland.

For some time we have been hearing rumors from media commentators and reporters that ComReg were passing off Ireland Offline commentaries and Press article as not worth mentioning or nothing to be concerned about.

In the last few days two separate journalists have publicly quoted Comreg’s responses when asked to comment on Ireland Offline opinions or submissions.

When contacted by ElectricNews.Net a ComReg spokesperson declined to comment on any criticism coming from Ireland Offline.

    http://www.telecoms.com/itmgcontent/tcoms/news/articles/20017340213.html

A spokesman at Comreg told Telecoms.com on Tuesday: "We don't comment on anything IrelandOffline has to say."

This coupled with the feedback we have received from reporters and added to one particular member of Comreg who has consistently snubbed Ireland Offline and attempted repeatedly (despite contrary direction from his fellow workers) to have all communications filtered through himself leaves us no choice but to consider the Irish regulator for communications to be a hostile party.

Accordingly we will have no option but to cc all communications with Comreg to both the DCMNR,at least three independent news organisations and the EU regulator in the form of George Papapavlou.

All future submissions to Comreg will also be cc’d to the DCMNR, the news organisations and again the EU regulator in the form of George Papapavlou.

These cc’d correspondences will be attached with a covering letter explaining why we feel this is necessary.

    John

Unlike our childlish and petulant regulator who still reads this forum (Hey guys!) we'll still praise them when they deserve praise, we'll support them on initiatives where they can do good (such as the directives they lashed eircom with on LLU in Feb 2005) and we'll point out where they screw up too. Transparent and honest, that's our policy.

Though I acknowledge that a lot needs to be done by Comreg, they're not always entirely at fault.

I remember attending a meeting in Comreg (when it was the ODTR) for technical staff of various operators back about 7/8 years ago on the technical aspects of LLU. All the operators sent their technical staff, except Esat, who sent two lawyers who just obstructed the meeting at every opportunity with crap about orders of business/agenda items etc. The meeting had no political or commercial agenda, just an honest attempt to go through the various technical issues of LLU with Telecom Eireann.

Perhaps we can outsource to Ofcom
