    It depends on a couple of things with how you have the system setup.

    What kind of CPU are you using ?

    Do you have a thermally controlled CPU cooler ?

    Does the case have it owns fans plugged into the motherboard ?

    In relation to the graphics card the only thing you can do there is replace the cooler it should only activate when in 3D mode anyway unless there is something wrong.

    Thanks for the reply;

    Dunno but if you tell me how to check I'll find out.it uses this mobo; http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=305190&CKS=PCW

    I have the Gigabyte aurora and the case fans are virtually silent. They are 120mm running at a 1000rpm so it must be your graphics/cpu/psu fans making the noise. You could always look into some sort of fan controller?

    Well the first thing you can do is enable Cool & Quiet this is a feature on AMD Athlon 64 CPU's that allow it to dynamically adjust the clock speed of the CPU.

    It basically works along the lines of when your not using a CPU intensive program e.g. a web browser it lowers the CPU speed which means less heat and the CPU cooler slows down so that means less noise. When a program that is CPU intensive is running it ramps the speed back up & hence speed from CPU cooler and noise increases as well.

    To enable Cool & Quiet go into your bios and in the CPU configuration section look for the feature by default it is set to off so enable it, also in the power menu make sure ACPI-APIC support is enabled.

    Next install this driver in Windows and after that go into the control panel->power options and under the setting of “power schemes” set it to "minimal power management" this will enable C&Q. In a little while or maybe after the next reboot you should hear an audible difference in the CPU fan as it slows down you can always check with a utility to see if it’s working anyway.

    You do have another option Asus have a feature called Q-fan in the bios that will force it's own RPM on the CPU cooler depending on the temperature of the CPU.

    However be aware that the computer will be as noisy as the loudest device in it so even if the CPU cooler is quieter some thing else like the case fans would still be generating more noise.

    As for the case fans well if they are really bothering you I think one of those RPM adjusters would be your best bet unless you replace the fans with something quieter or simply unplug them unless you’re overclocking or in a really warm room they are more than likely superfluous the components are designed to take a reasonable amount of heat.

    This would be not be highly recomended for your case fans becuase they are already running a pretty low rpms and if you drop them any lower they simply wont push any air around your system. RPM adjusters for graphics/cpu/psu fans would fine as long as keep an eye on temps.

    Thanks lads, I was just reading about the AMd cool n quiet ability, but thanks for the heads up, I'll give it a go, to be honest the fans are becoming less of a distraction. I think Im just getting used to them. I'll def use that feature tho,

    Again, thanks for the advice.
