I’ve never claimed for my bin charges and went up to the tax office and she told me to write down roughly what I paid for 2002 to 2005 inclusive. Can’t really remember what I paid for 2002, 2003 and 2004. Can anyone remember what the fixed yearly amount we paid for those years and what price the bin tags were in Waterford. Also am I right in remembering that we paid €80 last year as a fixed charge and it was €6 for the black bin and €1.50 for the green and brown bins. Also is it worth claiming back for these years?

    Any comments appreciated.

The fixed charge only came in last year. Can't remember what the tags were before that. Ring the council or look at www.waterfordcity.ie and see can you get the info you're looking for.

The fixed charges came in in 2004 at €80 , last year they were €100 and this year they are €120 , they should be able to give you the amount you're entitled to in the tax office without any receipts as far as I know , just tell them you paid the full amount every year

AFAIK, there is a cap on releif for bin charges. Over a certain amount and don't get releif on the full amount.

I'm surprised that she is allowing you to claim for as far back as 2002.
You obviously weren't dealing with the awkward old bat I usually end up with.
I tried claiming tax back on medical expenses and could only claim for the previous year.

Well some good news just got a cheque this morning for €470.36. It says PAYE refund for 2003, 2004 and 2005. I had submitted claims for bin charges and interest on home improvement credit union loans. So anyone who hasn't claimed go do it now.

You can go back up to 6 years! If they won't let you ask to speak to someone else.
