Lidl stock...

I went to Lidl today to buy 2 pieces of rope (marine stuff, much cheaper than marine shops) but alas, even at 4PM, the rope was out of stock! I didn't think thered be such demand!

Does anyone know... With these Lidl 'specials'... do they just throw out all the stock on the first day, or do they release some more the next day?

ie. The product was released today, sold out.. Will they have some more stock for tomorrow?

    how long was the rope?

seriously though, most people go there to pick up a bargain. they don't care what it is most of the time. just that it's there and it's cheap.

Guy I work with went out to a nearby one a few weeks back to pick up drop sheets (for decorating)....he said he almost ended up coming to blows with two other guys there that were filling their trolleys with the shop's entire stock of them lol...he ended up getting 2...at considerable saving. Good chance that they were being bought for resale....as I suspect with your rope...

It was marine bouyant rope... I'm not stuck for it or anything, but would be handy as its quite expensive in the shops

I used to work for them, I'd say they put out everything they had, the stock for the specials is mostly all put out in the morning, leaving little if nothing at all in the stockroom.

I've had people storming the stockroom before looking for more stock, It was crazy when they had TVs on offer! People trying to push past me and raid the stock! b:eek:

Sadly Lidl in KIlkenny was out of stock, the girl told me it all went early. :(

I have witnessed fisty cuffs at an alidi in Thurles last year over compressors and power tools. Punches were thrown and blood was shed. Gardai were called in to break it up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,209 ✭✭✭✭JohnCleary

Bond - Thanks for checking, much appreciated!

I'd say Alsi would have been madness with the compressors alright... Woulda been fun to watch though!

Was in the Lidl on Greenhills Road yesterday and all the stock was gone by 12 mid-day. Overheard a member of staff talking to the guy next to me saying she would check their internal stock controll systems to see if any of the regional branches had stock, if so she would ring him and request the stock to the branch for him. Then she took his phone number.

    Worth a try.

the thing is that lidl will only buy in a certain amount of stock and if it sells quickly then they will restock at a later stage with a bigger amount of stock because they know its worth it!

If you own a boat you must have a few quid, go to a marine shop.. How much could you be saving on rope anyway? ;p

It's actually for the JetSki I was getting it for :)

Every penny counts tbh... There was major saving in Lidl for the rope... Oh well :(

I called in to Wicklow Lidl there 2 weeks back when they had their DIY/builders things. There was a queue at the door, and all these big builder with 2-3 trolleys each. I felt like a chick at a designer cloths shop sale. It was madness. I ended up spending twice as much. And the stuff is pretty good quality for the price.

Learned my lesson though, get there early as possible, sad I know, but if you want a bargain..........

I was a store manager for Lidl a couple of years ago. It is company policy to limit the quantity of any product a customer buys. so the person filling their trolley probably got turned back at the checkout. this policy is clearly outlined on all advertisements.

Proper order. That'll stop it all ending up in car boot sales and the like. How do they make money on loss leaders like that anyway? I know a fair few people who only go in there for the item of the week as advertised in the circulars and nothing else. There is some fairly good quality stuff in the mix too, if you know what you're looking at.

They're not all loss leaders. you have to concider that the purchasing department is Buying for over 6000 stores. that is huge buying power. For example each store may get 100 TV's by 6000 stores that’s six hundred thousand TV's the manufacturer will produce a batch like that for less and pass on the savings. In addition to that Lidl have a stake in a lot of the manufacturing companies. A lot of people will go in for the advertised items and then pick up one or two items that take their fancy while in the shop. next time its 3 or 4 then over time they end up doing most of their shopping in Lidl.
this works well for them, and has for years.

There's only aset amount of each produst produced and divided out among the Lidl's of Eire, depending on the suspected demand. So sometimes places only get a very small stock of them, it depends on the item too. Or at least that's what some Lidl bloke told us one time...

Thanks for that. It makes considerably more sense than taking a hit on every bargain item in the hope that a customer is gained by virtue of being on the premises alone.

I think for stuff like this, people make a point of going out and getting them - picked up a couple of cheap fenders myself!! If it were food it wouldn't be as big a deal, but they are clever the way they sell specific stuff - you tend to buy stuff you didn't even go in for (life jackets).

le rack - its only eire if the whole post is in Irish

Just want ot say a BIG THANK YOU to CrowdedHouse who went completely out of his way to get me some rope (yarrr!)

He wouldnt even take the few bob I offered him for going out of his way for me.

Noel... You're what makes the world a nice place, fairplay to ya!
(Nice car btw - if you werent such a nice guy id be green with envy!)

Fair play to ya crowded house, it's nice to be nice.

As for Lidl, I'm not lookin forward to Monday. I'm a biker and it's bike specials on monday. I've never been to Lidl on a monday morning but it sounds hellish! If shaggin sailing equipment sells out in a few minutes (I was wondering what the hell those boat fenders were there for the other day!) then biking gear will fly out.

Why not tie some fenders to your body when cycling? That way if you fall off, you'll bounce back up again!

I meant biking as in motorbiking :D The fender thing might still work though but I'm a cheapskate (pardon the maritime pun) so I think I'll just use old tyres.

I just hope for your conscience that John Cleary only wants good strong rope for his jet-ski

...........am reminded of a story of a friend of mine who's father is a retired rural Garda. He has a 'strap' used for securing loads to a trailer which he recovered from the swinging body of the local protestant minister who'd hanged himself with it. He was also in posession of a shotgun used for a similar purpose by a local farmer! My friends mother wouldn't touch either item, understandably I suppose!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,209 ✭✭✭✭JohnCleary

The rope is for my Jet ski, and as a spare in the boat. It has a 700KG breaking strain, which is strong enough for anything I need, however when towing ill use my stronger stuff.

Mainly I bought it as a spare, its always handy to have spare compact rope incase you land at a pier at low tide etc.

    Noel - I want your car!! :p

Was working there this time last year, the jackets sold out very quick. but the rest of the biker gear was very slow to sell. so shouldn't be a problem getting what you want.

I couldn't get parked in Lidl - those 60' yachts were taking up triple spaces.

Went into Portlaoise this morning to pick up a spare helmet for myself. No XL ones left at all - there was one guy who had about 15 helmets in a trolley and was going through them all looking for an XL - I was glad he didn't get any.
Got a balaclava, battery charger and bike cover though...

The problem I see is that Lidl staff are unwilling/unable to stop bulk buying for resale. I see a lot of feckers just buying up everything and not a word is said to them.

Like ticketmaster, they should put a 3-4 each item limit

When I worked for them a couple of years ago it was company policy to limit the bulk buying. I don't think that has changed. so it should be reported to the head office customer service department 1800 347447. they will probably try to locate the product you want in another store

Got down to Lidl first thing this morning and all was relaxed, just one other guy lookin at bike stuff.

    I got almost all I wanted;
New Jacket, trousers, overalls, balaclava, open face helmet for the summer, gloves, tank bag, chain lock, intercom and battery charger all for €270. Great value altogether. The jacket and trousers are great. Very comfy. My old jacket was missing its liner and was getting tatty. Just missed out on boots because they didn't have any size 11's in either Lidl in Blanch today. I'm a 12 but might have been able to squeeze into an 11 if they were a big fit, not to be sadly :(

I might try Leixlip/Maynooth tomorrow but ave a feeling size 10 is the biggest they'll go to despite the flyer.

Lidl should have come here years ago.

Was in Mooore Street today looking for cycling gear. Most of it was gone but there was plenty of motorbike stuff there. Was there any cycling gear left there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,050 ✭✭✭✭murphaph

This exact same thing is available in Lidl TODAY for €7.99!! That's where all those bulk buyers go I reckon! Imagine paying €66 for it and then walking into Lidl and seeing it there for almost nothing :(
