I am thinking of going to china for a month and basing myself in beijing, does anyone know is it cheap to fly between beijing and hong kong or between beijing and xian/shanghai?

Also does china have any decent beach resorts and if so whats the accomodation at them like? im not into roughing it

Internal flights in China are cheap and getting cheaper - although you have to bear in mind that teh distances are longer so it will be more than European short haul.

There is also the option of sleeper trains (take a lot longer - Shanghai to Hong Kong took us about 30 hours)

As far as I know there are no decent beach resorts in China - it's not a beech destination. You'd do better to go to Thailand or thereabouts for palm tree and white sand.

There is a lot of 3-5 star accomodation in China and the prices can be pretty steep. That said the cheaper end of the market is not as grim as it used to be. If you are going to be in Shanghai see if you can get accomodation in the peace hotel on the Bund.

There are photos from China here to whet your appetite

For internal flights in China have a look here...

    ticket.9588.com/FlightTicket/Main_E.aspx

sometimes takes a while to load even on broadband.
Have not used the site to book flights, just thought it might be of
interest. I went to China twice and can highly recommend it. Enjoy
